Rogers and Grant... what do we have there?

I remember seeing something a couple weeks ago that Rogers in his first start had graded out as our best lineman. How has he done since that first start?
How did Grant do? Kyle Long was very complimentary of Grant yesterday.
Real question is... are we as bad, and as desperate for help on 0-line as we think we are, or was a lot of that just bad personnel discissions and coaching by Pete and his kid.
If Rogers and Grant can play, along with moving JPJ back to center, maybe the o-line isn't as needy as we think.
Obviously, we look for help, but maybe not a total overhaul.

Cappa got bull-rushed into the backfield too many times for my tastes. Same with Putnam and Parham. All three should be replaced.
Absolutely true. But it costs nothing to keep Cappa until you replace him. Parham is a FA and is as good as gone IMO. Putnam is an ERFA so he's likely getting an ERFA tender for the minimum and will also be gone if we upgrade.
Never stop working to improve the oline. But don't just leave big gaps on the roster when there isn't an immediate need. Especially coming into the draft when it's better to keep teams guessing about who you might select.
This isn't like a Geno situation where we're on the hook for another $8 million if we don't cut bait early.

The thing is with Olinemen is sure you get really good one's really often at the top of the draft, but you get really good one's in a lot of rounds day two and day three. College may be producing fewer "traditional" QB and RBs and definitely fewer LBs but linemen are linemen and big bodies are all over college football. I think it is actually hard not to have at least a decent line if you just put forth the effort to draft at least one or two each year, in our case three might be the special sauce.
Of course not going through GMs and HCs like tissue would help as well.

I prefer to only start cuts when you need the money if it is going to leave a hole. I think we have a few cuts to make, but no use making them until we have something lined-up.
Rogers and Grant showed well to end the season.
I too am 100 percent on board the Linderbaum train. I am sure the Ravens will resign him as they have some solid cap space, but Id give Linderbaum a godfather offer.

Other than the last name of Davis, the above has to be a primary reason for decades of shit

I'm sure the Ravens will want to re-sign Linderbaum, but their $31 million in cap space doesn't compare to the Raiders over $100 million. They are a team that has let good players walk before because they are confident in their ability to draft and develop replacements. He also plays a position that you can't really franchise tag because the estimated tag number would be $27 million and the current highest salary for a center is $18 million.

Yep. And if we're gonna spend and overpay, what better position group than O line.

I think the guys who are on the edge of 30 are going to test the market in search of that final payday. Those aging but still effective guys are prime candidates for front loaded contracts.

I would sign Salyer from the LAC. He has played at RG mostly, but he played LT, RT, and LG as well because of all their injuries. He’s not elite, but he’s good, has versatility, and won’t break the bank.

And so the rebuild begins. Let's hope we get a good coach and some talent in free agency and the draft.

I just want a coach to be here for at least 3 years. Talent won't matter if the coach is new every year. Having said that..... I'm fine with the last 3 firings.

We need to hire a coach who's worth keeping for at least 3 years.

At least 3 and as long as they don’t go dramatically backwards at least 5. We need some stability

Drafted into Chip Kelly's offense and won't be developed in it.
Couldn't tell you how they'll fit into the "next" coaches offense if at all.
Here less than a year and will have had 3 OCs.

I basically hate having a rebuild, but there is no choice. At the beginning of the season I thought our roster was weak and as the season progressed, I realized it was terrible. So bite the bullet, relax, and enjoy the ride for a couple years and hope they finally do it right. I just wish we had a different owner, not that others of them are not meatheads, but ours is pretty disgusting

I think these two guys will do well. Grant is supposed to have more potential than Rogers. They could both form the right side of our O-line.
