It is sad that Derek is the first QB to ever be benched.

He is right the Raiders changed, changed QB's. Derek didn't, he still wanted to be starter. The Las Vegas Derek's has a nice ring, no?

Mark was absolutely right about blocking the Saffold trade. Dude was washed, so great call by him.
He stepped in occasionally when he first took ownership. He stepped in on the Carson trade, and also the Saffold trade. He does have a right to do that because at the end of the day its his money and his team. These decisions dont come out of a vacuum though, he talks to people that know football and he respects their advice. That coupled with his own intuition sometimes makes him step in.
Hue was emphatic in his interview about having nothing to do with that trade - sounds like Mark stepping in and doing whatever he wants. Like father, like son.
We will get trade offers for Carr, almost 100 percent. There just isn't enough QBs in this league that have experience and are worthy of starting. Even David was like no he will be looking for a new team and offers. The only concern is that small window and if Davis wants to gamble on a handshake deal. He will lose a lot of sleep at night worrying if Carr will screw him over. My initial thoughts are Davis won't take the risk and just cut him and send him on his way. Carr will be with a new team soon, and that team will finish 7-10, just enough for fans to look forward to next year, and they will finish 8-9.
He will need to extend his vesting date or just be cut is my thought.
Don't matter where Carr goes, he will underperform. He does not need bad weather to fold, he merely needs an opposing D that can get pressure and he will fold like a cheap shirt.

My take: Carr will be fully exposed as the loser he is next season....if he does not retire.
Since 2017, when opposing teams made Carr beat them, it usually worked. The formula:

1. Clamp down on the short stuff/make him go past his first read.
2. Stack the box to shut down the run game
3. Apply pressure liberally throughout the game
4. Don't go into prevent D

The book's out on him regardless of where he goes. He's not going to suddenly become the next Rich Gannon--he doesn't have the football IQ or work ethic.

I haven't paid much attention to how good Saffold has been, but I know he's continued to be a starting OL the last 6-7 years.

Just looked, he's started 15 or more games the last 7 years so he must be decent. Hard to say he was washed several years ago, maybe not worth the money we were going to pay. I don't remember the circumstances but Reggie ended up building a very good OL regardless.
I would lean more towards proven young talent if I had the choice. Future picks are a toss up, if we can land some budding young defenders I would snatch it up. Imagine trading with the Jets and getting their young CB Gardener and some picks.
No way in hell they give up Gardner unless we’re packaging our 1st with Carr.

In terms of a player the only guy I see potentially working would be becton. We need an RT, he’s young and looked great as a rookie but has been injured and seems to have fallen out of favor there. We’d get this year and a 5th year option. Jets would likely be more willing to trade him than PREMIUM draft capital.

If you can get becton and a 2nd I say take it and run. If we give up a 2nd with Carr maybe quinnen williams is available (but probably not).
That's just another excuse. Is Mark Davis a dipshit? I think he is. He's not forcing Derek to be a garbage QB though. "He wants stability" is just one more in the longest line of excuses for a shitty player I've ever seen.
Stability according to the Carr's: Look the other way and pay Lil Derek no matter what.
Raiders head coach Hue Jackson has become an even bigger part of the organization since Al Davis' passing and had this to say about the trade:

As far as the draft picks, what we have to give up, I never hesitated because I know exactly what I'm getting. I don't think you're ever mortgaging the future when you put a big-time franchise quarterback on your team.

Sounds like it was a Hue Jackson decision to me.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndicatio ... l.amp.html
It absolutely was Hue Jackson.
