Correction, I felt this wasn't correct when I read it. Williams 2024 record was 5-12, leading the bears to a losing season.Atlasffa wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2026 6:07 pm In case you were wondering...
Win-loss record of QBs selected number one since 2016:
Cam Ward (2025, Titans): Finished his rookie year with a 3-14 record.
Caleb Williams (2024, Chicago Bears): Finished his rookie year with a 9–8 record, leading the Bears to a winning season.
Bryce Young (2023, Carolina Panthers): Finished his rookie year with a 2–14 record in 16 starts.
Trevor Lawrence (2021, Jacksonville Jaguars): Finished his rookie year with a 3–14 record in 17 starts.
Joe Burrow (2020, Cincinnati Bengals): Finished his rookie year with a 2–7–1 record before suffering a season-ending knee injury in 10 games.
Kyler Murray (2019, Arizona Cardinals): Finished his rookie year with a 5–10–1 record in 16 starts.
Baker Mayfield (2018, Cleveland Browns): Finished his rookie year with a 7–7 record (6–7 as a starter) in 14 total appearances.
Jared Goff (2016, Los Angeles Rams): Finished his rookie year with a 0–7 record in 7 starts. First start on Nov 15 after sitting behind Case Keenum.
All talented, successful college QBs, pretty much the same result for all with the small exception for Caleb Williams who had a winning record by one game and Baker who went 50-50 (if you include a game he did not start, but did finish). FM has the good fortune to have a coach with a plan and the right people in place to mentor him. Fingers crossed, the plan will work.
Thanks for being honest.Xramfan wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2026 6:23 pm Well, to be honest, I honestly dont trust people who open with, "To be honest"
Well sometimes I just post without really thinking about it, so yes. This time I paused and really went over the tape, the numbers, the overall situation, and only after all of that did I post that last post.Xramfan wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2026 5:06 pm Thank you for being honest. Thanks for the correction. I have fired my AI assistant--errors like that are not acceptable!16 to 88 wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2026 8:39 pm Correction, I felt this wasn't correct when I read it. Williams 2024 record was 5-12, leading the bears to a losing season.
It will be an interesting season for him as his rookie campaign he had 562 attempts with 351 completions for a 62.5 completion percentage with 3541 passing yards 6.3 avg and 20-6 TD to INT ratio while being sacked 68 times. He did however have 10 fumbles 5 of which were lost.
Enter new HC and the 2026 season. He went 568 for 330 for a 58.1 completion percentage with 3942 passing yards 6.9 avg and 27-7 TD to INT ratio while being sacked 24 times. Last year he had 9 fumbles but only 1 lost. So in two years he has fumbled the ball 19 times.
When you put it all together while his comp percentage and yards went up he was sacked 44 times LESS last year but his completion percentage was dreadful and the fumbling issue still plagued him.
He is a very talented QB. He would have benefited from sitting at least half the season, and oh, maybe a coach better suited to him. CW did a lot of "winging it" that first year and was very frustrated. I thought that W-L given by AI was wrong but didn't double check believing AI to have a better memory than me. Actual stat makes my point even stronger. None of them had a winning season.16 to 88 wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2026 8:39 pm Correction, I felt this wasn't correct when I read it. ....and should his answer be 'no', might he be being less than truthful?....Xramfan wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2026 5:06 pm Thank you for being honest. Does this mean most of the other times you post something youre being dishonest?

I am concerned about how poorly Mendoza did in preseason. He showed nothing that any 2nd rounder couldn't have shown.powski wrote: Thu Sep 03, 2026 3:33 am
Valid criticism is fine and I am for it. It's just that most of it has gotten absurd early. Already!
There were flashes from him. But you have to look at the large picture here. He has not thrown a pass to Bowers and the rest of the receivers were not solid. There were drops and bad routes from the group. And he did not have much time. He has struggled with the pass rush against blockers who are just not that good. On the pick six play his line utterly failed. Was he off balance? Yes, but the rush was coming and you know you are in trouble when Mafi was your best lineman. And there is another factor people fail to see. He is working under center where he has never been much before. That coupled with the speed of the game and the poor blocking and the poor receivers were huge contributors.Opoponax50 wrote: Thu Sep 03, 2026 9:43 am I am concerned about how poorly Mendoza did in preseason. Does that mean I'm predicting long term failure?
Of course not. But I do think he's behind schedule.
A lot of people here would be lying if they thought he would've been so clearly behind the curve by this point. We were hoping he'd give Cousins some kind of run for his money, but instead the coaching staff had an easy decision to make.
As I've said before, maybe I have football PTSD from six years of excuse making with Carr. All he needed was a great receiving corp, a star TE, an all pro O-line, and a top 5 running game. Then he'd show the world what he can do. I don't want to see the same thing happen all over again.
While Indiana didn't have top recruits, in the end they had the whole package and he excelled in having all those things.Opoponax50 wrote: Thu Sep 03, 2026 9:43 am I am concerned about how poorly Mendoza did in preseason. He showed nothing that any 2nd rounder couldn't have shown.
