Until yesterday, I was in the “make your peace with it Carr is back for 23-24” camp. I saw us making a mini run, maybe no playoffs but a winning streak to keep us relevant in Jan, and I saw Carr being a major beneficiary of that. “He kept the team afloat” seemed an easy narrative to paint, and keeping him around seemed like the path of least resistance.
Now I’m not so sure. Pure gut feeling, but last nights game might really be that last straw. Someone mentioned that Mark is in Carr’s corner, but like many of Carr’s former fans I think he’s starting to see that it be worth hitting the fail safe in Carr’s contract. I don’t think he has made that decision 100%, but I do think that his eyes are open to that possibility.
If we had finished strong, I suspect Mark would want to see the 3 year plan through. Last night likely marked the last chance this season to finish strong, and with that ship sailing I could see Mark gravitating to the idea of moving on
Quite simply, you don't pay a 32 year mediocre quarterback 36 million guaranteed.
Just look at what transpired two states over. They paid a 34 year old QB who is/was much better then Carr a boatload of money and how has that turned out? Carr this year at best has look middle of the road and at worst bottom of the barrel.

For the most part I don’t think we’d leave anything to chance if we’re moving on. What that basically means is a 3-way trade where we can move Carr, get up to the 2nd overall pick, and be sold on at least 2 of the top QBs since it’s still unclear who Houston will take.
Also worth noting that we have one of the easiest strengths of schedule. That in and of itself probably covers 4-6 spots.
Is he going to outlast another coach?
He's been a "coach killer" since Day 1.
I wish I could dig up some of my old posts here from his early years. Although, I hate being right in this case. It's been hard being a Raiders fan for too many years, but DAMN. And every time I think I MIGHT have to come back here and eat crow,
The national media doesn’t know shit about him. They haven’t suffered through every snap of his like we have. It’s so ridiculous when I hear that crap.
Exactly. We've watched every game of Carr's career. Of all the snaps he's ever taken under center as a Raider, I'm confident in saying I've seen 99%+ of them.
None of the talking heads can say that. They don't know this team and they don't know Carr like we do. It's the same as when Chiefs fans wanted to get rid of Alex Smith. From an outside perspective, they seemed crazy, but they watched every snap he took and saw the same shortcomings over and over and over. They knew he didn't have what it took to take them all the way.
Carr doesn't have it. He never will. Winning QBs don't consistently stink up the joint the way Carr does every season. 3-4 complete games, some average games, and a noticeable number of bed-shtting games. This happens every year.
We know it because we see it every year. The TV people don't.
Look...I've not even called for us to go after him and straight up said he isn't a day one guy so if he is the choice to understand he would be developmental but I think he could be worth a shot understanding that.
It may not work out but even more dicey prospects have come through before.
I look at him as a swing at the bat, and a good one. I watched a lot of Locker, they don't seem the same to me but again I don't believe I'm a good stand in for the strawman you are looking for anyway.
Huh?? I'm not looking for anything, I just gave my analysis which you are free to disagree with. No two players are the exact same. I made a specific comparison in terms of how each of the prospects has desirable physical attributes but were not as good as the sum of their parts and from that standpoint, the comparisons I would argue are very strong:
- Both are at this point considered top ten prospects
- Both are 6'3", 231 (Locker's Combine weight)
- Both had wheels and strong arms
- Both had multiple subpar game performances that were seemingly ignored in their draft analysis
- Neither had a "signature game" in their careers.
- Neither demonstrated clutch performance ability.
Levis is being evaluated purely on physical attributes. If he had 75% of the savvy and playmaking ability of Bryce Young he would be the runaway #1 pick, but in reality he has maybe 25% of it and that isn't good enough.
My eyes were opened late in the 2017 season. JDR was asked about the lack of deep throws after a game and he said that there were deep passes called (but not executed). Carr was asked about JDRs statement and Carr said something to the effect of playing QB the way he saw fit. He was telling everyone who he was right there, but few picked up on it.

We'll see how the season ends but I'm guessing Raiders go into 2023 with the plan to stick with McD and Carr and give it another go in year two and spend the off season upgrading the talent level on the defense and add some to the Oline.

I think Carr is gone but then I think they keep him because the Super Bowl is in Vegas next year. This team is just the right amount stupid to think they can compete for the title with Carr and a few upgrades on defense.
I’m kind of shocked that Graham still has a job. The only time the defence looks good is when Crosby is getting sacks, pressures or making plays against the run. He is literally a one man wrecking crew out there
