2002 was a terrible draft for QBs. David Carr was the first pick and he was running the new spread offense at Fresno State which gave him crazy stat numbers that meant nothing in the NFL in 2002. Harrington was an inaccurate passer, he was ranked 41st in 2001 in completion percentage at 57.8% with his college career at 54.7%. You cannot be that inaccurate in college and be any good in the NFL. The passing windows are incredibly smaller in the NFL.
Matt Leinart failed because he had the same work ethic in the NFL as Jamarcus Russell.

Well, welcome back, but considering the only games you’ve watched of Mendoza were his last two, and after those you feel that he’s going to fail in the NFL, there’s really not much left for you in this thread. Poke around some other threads where you might be able to offer somethin’.

He looks great to me, not every QB coming out has to be Anthony Richardson.Uqbar wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 4:32 pm I'm not hating Mendoza, i just think he will not be good. I think it's a terrific game manager Buy i think he will not be effective because of this ara strenght

56 seconds in, not only throwing 40 yards on a dime, but great touch on the pass. The guy just does not know what he is talking about. Seriously

Let’s be honest, this years qb draft is pretty bad also.Southshield wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 10:42 pm 2002 was a terrible draft for QBs. it is a horrible QB draft, top 2 guys (Mendoza and Simpson) and then garbage. I am not including Moore now since I think he stays in school.NoClapsPlease wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 4:56 am Let’s be honest, this years qb draft is pretty bad also.

Arm strength isn’t the be all end all for a QB. Jeff George had the best arm ever in the NFL. Unfortunately it was attached to Jeff George.
Arm strength is a factor yes but not the only one. NFL level processing matters far more than anything else. Which is why guys like Anthony Richardson struggle.
As far as Mendoza? His arm strength looks fine to me.
Lastly, Joey Harrington? Not seeing that. Derek Carr = Joey Harrington? Yes.

It's absolutely possible that Mendoza's NFL career is meh or worse. A lack of arm strength isn't going to be the main reason. Ultimately it's what's between the ears that defines the level of QB success - having a gun for an arm or being a ridiculous athlete who can make a ton of plays with his legs can sometimes fill the gap in knowledge and experience for a while.
And Mendoza may not have an elite arm, but it's a very good arm - he can make all the throws you want to make. Like Joe Burrow. Most of a good QB's good play is pretty boring - find a weakness, spam it, don't get bored doing it over and over again.

Yep, you never know what happens at the next level. If they don't get him a line, he will likely fail. But his arm will not be the reason if he does fail.chucker wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 5:39 am It's absolutely possible that Mendoza's NFL career is meh or worse. Elite arm strength is what made 2 of the greatest of this century and all time. It’s elite football IQ. Mendoza seems to have a great start in that dept. there is no physical where he is below average.
Again he may bust but it won’t be due to effort, drive, work ethic or desire.

Nobody knows dick about QB's (its been proven over time). I am just excited that we are finally taking a swing. If we trade the pick, I will loose it. Supposedly, the Rams went Mendoza bad. I hope we block their calls.
