Mike Zimmer? He was 72-56 when he coached the Vikings.
I'd want Vrable who feels like a JDR hire before that old guy. No way he relates to the players of today or has the energy to coach like a younger guy.
McVay (hired at 30)
Shanahan (hired at 37)
Sirianni (hired at 39)
Campbell (hired at 44)
McDermott (hired at 42)
LaFleur (hired at 39)
O'Connell (hired at 36)
As of note, five of these coaches are former OC's. It appears there is an advantage when you have a HCOC if you will as compared to hiring a defensive minded coach (Pierce). Again, not always but currently that is working quite well (Reid).
Yes, currently there are exceptions to this such as Reid, Tomlin, Harbaugh and Harbaugh. But Reid was already a known commodity and a superb coach before being hired by KC and Jim Harbaugh we all know about as well. Tomlin was hired at 35 but I still contend the vast majority of his success comes from him being hired by an already steady steelers organization and not him being some wiz-bang fantastic X's and O's coach.
Point is there aren't any real for sure older coaches from what I see that will become available after black Monday. Possibilities may include??? McCarthy, Pederson, Daboll are all older coaches that more than likely will be shown the door but all have lots of question marks. I would love to have Taylor but nobody for sure knows his fate. All 3 of the coaches in our division are just a few short years from retirement. We need to get rid of Pierce ASAP and find a younger innovative HC that can relate to these players and has the energy to do the 24/7/365 of coaching and grow into our league for years to come.
Some current OC's that might be pried away from there teams...
Klint Kuibak
Dan Pitcher
Joe Brady
Frank Smith (who was our TE's coach)
Kellen Moore
Wes Phillips
Adam Stenavich
Liam Coen
Mike LaFleur

We've all sat through some atrocities throughout the decades. Not just bad coaches, but poor ownership mixed with cap purgatory. How invested would you all even be in next season if AP is still the HC? Because I doubt I'd give a shit.

Looks like Vrabel is interviewing with the Jets today. The article linked in the tweet is a decent character profile on Vrabel, worth the read if you like that type of thing. There is a lot of fluff, but some few excerpts that are interesting

PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
The emphasis on accountability stretched from the practice squad up to the team’s biggest stars. Vrabel was unafraid to call out A.J. Brown or Jeffery Simmons or Derrick Henry in front of the entire team. There was candor — brutal at times. Not everyone appreciated it, and Vrabel admits that, at times, he focused too much on the things players were doing wrong, instead of highlighting the things they were doing right. But most of the Titans locker room understood where he was coming from.

...he felt there was a persistent line of questioning throughout those interviews, touching on a perception that he doesn’t collaborate well with owners and general managers.
“I care about the team. No job is too small for me or anybody else to help the team win,” Vrabel said. “I feel like I can work with anybody. I feel like winning is the ultimate goal and I — just like our team — have got to be willing to adjust and adapt to things that are going on.
“But I believe that I can respectfully disagree, have a conversation and move on and get past it. I’m also not afraid to share my opinion and what I believe in, my convictions about things that relate to helping a football team win, building a team or helping players, helping scouts. I love when coaches and scouts get together post-draft, I love collaborating with the general manager on inactives (on game day). I tried to incorporate that system into Tennessee because it’s something that I embraced and loved about what we did in Houston. It’s a unique relationship (coach and GM), one that has to remain respectful at all times. I think that it always was. Are we going to disagree? Yeah, I hope that we do so that we can grow. But ultimately, somebody’s gotta be in charge.”

If coaching consultants are supposed to stand in the corner and observe practice, Vrabel didn’t get that memo. As players started to stretch, Vrabel, wearing a Browns polo and shorts, skipped through the crowd — joyful, a man in his element. He’d periodically stop to chat, or to pat a player or two on the back. He stopped to talk to an assistant coach, and then, briefly, Stefanski. He walked over to a practice-squad defensive linemen, got in a three-point stance and showed him pass-rushing moves.
When Vrabel finally reached the opposite sideline, he picked up a red pinny with the No. 56 and joined the offensive linemen for the start of individual drills. “It’s third down!” he called, then lined up as an edge rusher, the only one not wearing a helmet. He got into a pass-rushing stance and went at center Ethan Pocic. And then tackle Jedrick Wills. On one play, Wills nearly shoved him to the ground but Vrabel kept his feet. Later, Vrabel lined up as a linebacker and nearly was trampled by a group of offensive linemen.
“This guy is going to get hurt,” said Joel Bitonio, the Browns’ longtime guard, with a laugh.
AP went nearly 3 months without winning a game and now you want to give him another year for beating a depleted Jags and Saints led by Mac Jones and Spencer Rattler.

GTFOH
Relax. I fully expect AP to be shown the door Sunday night or sometime Monday.
Anyone good in Minnesota? I'm impressed how well they are run to. Ben going to Chi and being as good as people think he is, the NFC North will be brutal. I can't see any reason a good team around Caleb would turn out bad.
The Vikes OC had done wonders with Darnold, so that could be a good option, but Darnold is surrounded by superstar talent. On the other hand, we surrounded Carr with a lot of good players, but he was still mediocre, so maybe Darnold is legit.
As for Johnson, I think his choice will be the one with the most potential, and that very well could be found in Caleb. The NFC North is a tough division, but I don't think it's as tough overall as the AFC West, especially with the coaches in this division. Add in the fact that we have no QB, there's no superstar QBs in the draft (IMO), and we're in no position to draft one even if there was.
Who the hell knows? At some point we will find out.

I just think he's in over his head and is doing the best he can. In contrast McDickbreath was an asshole who humiliated players in front of the peers and was just a shitty HC in general who never learned any lessons from his past mistakes.

Bc truthfully I don't think he's doing the best he can just for the simple fact he hasn't shown any improvement in any coaching aspect.

The problem for AP is he is up against Harbough, Reid, Peyton. Even if Brady came down from the booth and played like he was 35, I'm not sure it would be enough. You either need an experienced coach with SB or deep playoff appearances, or a highly coveted offensive (or defensive with top OC) minded coach to compete in this division. I may even consider Rat Jr at this point if the Niners show him the door and he can bring in Saleh as DC.

Here’s an excerpt from Marchand’s story in The Athletic:
“I’ve previously said I’d put down big money that Brady will not finish his 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox, given all his various business interests away from broadcasting, including ownership. That remains true. The safer prediction would be that Brady walks away from his Fox deal after three or four years. But I’m going bold and saying Brady gets deeper involved with the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason and decides to go all in with NFL ownership and his production company by the start of the next NFL season.”

"There's got to be clear communication with ownership, so that we understand as coaches what the expectations are," he said. "That's so we can explain to them what's reasonable, what we can do, what we probably can do and what we're going to try to do-or die trying. I want to have a structure in place that people see the game the same way I do from an X's and O's standpoint, from a personnel standpoint, with team-building. We would hopefully have that alignment, which is critical. "And I would like to be able to say that there's a quarterback that you feel like you can win with-or that there's a path to find one that you can win with."
