Hard not to like this deal. Fair for both sides. We got a solid QB for little draft capital and got a good extension
We basically got Smith for house money, at least draft capital-wise: the pick we traded was the pick we got from the Jets for letting Davante skip town 11 games (or whatever it was) early.
Davante, BTW, did not re-sign with the Jets after they cut him.

Well... At least this likely solidifies the fact we won't be taking Sanders or any QB in the 1st. Other than that, I have no faith in Geno Smith being any good here.

Either way, he's no longer our problem.

Because..?
Bc he's not that good of a QB. No need to get offended just bc he's a Raider. I have a feeling this board and the responses would look a lot different if Geno went to any other team in the AFC West.
But what do I know? I actually read on here earlier not to pay attention to QB stats.
That may be true, but half of the QB's in the league aren't any better than average/barely better. I'd say Geno fits in tghat catagory. Geno is what we have at this point. He's definitely better than what we've been trotting out there the last few years. I want a great QB too, be he isn't in this draft... at least it's not extremely apparent that one of them will be an elite QB. Ya gotta roll with what you have.
You are right we'd blow him off if say the Bronco's got him if they were in need. Pfff... But it takes time to see, because many thought Nix was an over draft and now is a "oh shit" to us. I bet Lions didn't think a ton of Geoff when they got him. How about Alex Smith? Gannon? Sure more fail, but under Pete those two years were very solid and we are only one year removed and they say Seattle's line is worse then ours. That's a real plus, he can play well behind a poor line and will only do better with a better line. He wanted to come here to be back with Pete as he credits Pete with his career turnaround. He gets back to the Pete years most will be happy. We'll be competitive. That's why we need D, because the moment he looks good, more pressure will be on the D.
Listen, I agree with you 100%. But why people get offended when logic is brought up is beyond me. Some on here literally think he will be our savior when in reality they are gonna be highly disappointed. And no, I still do not believe Geno Smith is worth a 3rd round pick.

But, when you need a QB that is at least capable of being average+ and you don't have one, what are you going to do? Sometimes things are just not in the cards at a given point. Maybe in the future.... but I think aquiring Geno was a good move... even for a third. Rolling with AO12 this year was not an option.

Those that hate the Geno deal seem to have wanted to sign Darnold
The simple of it all is you take the QB that has multiple proven seasons of good play over the guy who has had one proven season of good play, the exact same as you would do when drafting a player.
But apparently that logic goes out the window due to personal preference
Good team friendly deal allowing us to push drafting a QB into the future if we want

I've been very consistent that last year was the year to get a QB. We missed the boat. So of course anyone we got this year would appear to be an upgrade over what we have. That doesn't mean it's saying much.
Nice dig at me....Carr had good stats so I guess that makes him a good qb. Scott Mitchell had great stats one year too. He must be a good qb also. See why stats don't tell the whole story. It's not hard to comprehend but I realize that you're trying to be edgy by attempting to call people out

When you’re dating a 1 you don’t turn down a 6 just because she’s not a 10. Maybe that helps some understand. AOC is a f[raiders_icon]cking 1. Geno is more like a 6.5/7. The point is upgrading the QB spot is gonna help the team a hell of a lot more than a pick at the end of the 3rd round.

We had the worst QB room in the NFL last year so we got PFFs 15th ranked qb who played behind the 31st Oline last season who has played his best ball under Pete for a late 3rd that wasn’t even our pick who also happened to sign what I and others feel is a pretty reasonable contract. What’s the problem again?
