That’s a logical fallacy. The best ever any player has been drafted without success.chucker wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 5:56 am The best ever kickers have been drafted before, without success.

Seabass was overhyped and underwhelming.Rabidraider wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 5:53 am If a kicker is a generational player I have no problem drafting him. I was probably the only fan who wanted Seabass.
60 yard kick? Fine. Ask him to hit from 40-50? Roll the dice.

A key difference with kickers is that you can't just ease them in because there aren't backups or rotations. If the so-called elite CB you drafted takes time to develop then he has a lesser role. If you draft a kicker, he's your kicker - sink or swim. Lots of them sink. Carlson, for example. Roberto Aguayo. Seabass. There are lots of examples of kickers who suck early and cost their teams and some continue to suck. The history is really bad and they can't make up for it in other ways like some players at other positions can.Raidernation1979 wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 5:58 am That’s a logical fallacy. Some of this year’s best kickers were drafted. Clearly day three is where you want to do that.

The history on day three pics is not overwhelmingly great. You’re right you draft your kicker and you have to let him develop.chucker wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 6:07 am A key difference with kickers is that you can't just ease them in because there aren't backups or rotations. Coming out of Florida State he was suppose to be unbelievable at both on FGs and kick offs. Considering all the teams 1st round busts, getting 20 years from Seabass wasn't bad. At that time it was a major raider weakness and Al thought it would put the team over the top.Willmark wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 6:05 am Seabass was overhyped and underwhelming.

Most were not drafted. We have too many holes to draft a kicker IMO. You have to be willing to cut the guy - some guys never work out despite great performance in college.Raidernation1979 wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 6:10 am Some of this year’s best kickers were drafted. But you can't say that any other position has most of its top performers being undrafted players. And you can't have a kicker help out while he sucks and develops at his primary job by getting him to be a gunner on the punt team. A kicker who is not a good kicker has negative value to his team.

Kickers can score 35% or more of a teams points and a bad one can destroy a season or a playoff run quickly. Spending a medium draft pick every few years for a great one is worth it.
As for our situation, just sign Carlson.

Further thought on why the SEC is no longer “dominate”:
Don’t have the link handy but they brought up a good point not only has NIL/transfer portal affected everyone but also the SEC itself. It raised up the teams that were towards the bottom and reduced those at the top of the conference.
This makes sense as it had an effect of averaging things out in general.
Of course this really calls INT question in this day and age what purposes do conferences even serve? If players can pick up and move all over? Like bowl games, SEC “dominance”, conferences are a relic of how college football used to be, not way it is now.

Cam Little is what Seabass was hyped up to be but never was.Rabidraider wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 6:14 am Coming out of Florida State he was suppose to be unbelievable at both on FGs and kick offs. Seabass alternated between years where he was good (not great) and years where he cost the team wins. IMO sticking with Seabass cost the team overall over time. He should have been cut but his draft position saved his job.

We won 2 games. We need football players. Sign a kicker out of free agency and use the picks for football players. Generational talent in a kicker does not sway me on this.
