NFL Trade Deadline

Unread post by LayneStaley »

Ok maybe this doesn’t need its own thread but the deadline is 5 weeks away. I know the next couple weeks will determine if we are buyers but let’s say we get to 5-2 do we make a move?

I really wish we still had Jakobi here but it sounds like a few guys might be available…

Brian Thomas Jr
Marvin Harrison Jr
Jerry Jeudy

Thoughts?

I believe the Vikings would absolutely offer a 3rd for Cousins. I'm not sure any other team would offer much of anything but it is a unique trade opportunity for the Raiders because I think they've presented themselves as not wanting to trade him so you don't need competing offers to demand a price.

I think the Vikings likely land a QB..... but it could be Daniel Jones, at a lower price, if Cousins isn't available.

Chucker, I think you are right. The Vikings are all in for a Super Bowl run (rightfully so). I think they are going to sit tight until the last minute and do some comparisons. They must be figuring that we get blown away by the Niners which would move the needle in the chances of trading for Captain Kurk. There are more moving parts. Do they like what they see in Wentz and does he play a good game against the Bills? Obviously, the Colts are tanking and there is a slight connection to Jones. I would think the asking price for Jones will be much lower than Cousins. I am sure the Vikings leave no stone unturned and will make a soft inquiry about Cousins. There is a bigger connection with Cousins and I am sure JJ would prefer him over Jones (even though Cousins arm is toast). If Cousins becomes available, do the Vikings cheap out (Jones) or pay the extra vig for Cousins.

I completely forgot Jones spent a short stint in Minnesota not too long ago

If that would be a trade with the Vikings, we might just move up a few spots — from a high-ish second to a low first. I wouldn’t do that He is worth a lot more than that to possibly help the Vikings to get to the Superbowl. Our schedule is difficult and likely to keep us under 9 wins.

chucker wrote: Fri Nov 06, 2026 10:04 am What if you could trade Cousins and also do a deadline trade for a DT for an equivalent draft pick? You already have a QB replacement, even if it might be a short term downgrade (it also might not be a downgrade), and then probably have a significant upgrade in the middle of the D. You might trade your QB and make your team immediately better in the process, while at a net zero in future draft picks.

I have done zero research to see who might be available in trade to help our D so I don't know if this is actually feasible. I'm just spitballing.
In that case, I would go ahead and trade Cousins. We have our potential QB of the future waiting in the wings and he needs to see the field sooner rather than later. What we don't have is a stud NT and there's zero guarantee that we'd be able to get one in the offseason.

Doesnt trading Cousins also help our 2027 cap?

Legit SB opportunities dont grow on trees. They are missing 1 single player at thee key position. The guy thats available has thrown more TDs than anyone else this year, and has done so without any semblance of a run game to take pressure off, and without a #1 WR. If any situation justifies an over pay by the 6-Kings, this one does.

I believe were currently 14ish in draft position. If we lose KC, Im guessing we end up around 10th, but thats not a given. Maybe Mendoza doesnt have any growing pains and beats the 4 bad teams left on our schedule and we still wind up with 8-9 wins and draft 14th. But lets say youre right and we wind up 10-ish. If the Vikings win the SB thats pick 32, which is a jump of 11 slots from #10 in the 2nd round (and dont forget with the serpentine draft order, we could even be 12th in the 2nd round even though were 10th in the 1st round). The worst case scenario would be a move up of 11 slots. The upside is that the Vikings could be knocked out early and wind up with a mid 20s pick in the 1st round. From 12th in the 2nd to mid 20s in the 1st is 17 slots.
To put this in perspective, 2 years ago, the NYG gave up 2 3rd round picks to move up 9 slots to draft Dart. KC + our 2nd for Vikings 1st is a good exchange even in the worst case scenario. It would essentially value KC as much more than two Viking 3rd round picks (IIRC the Giants were drafting 3rd that year, so one of those 3rd round picks was pick #69 and the other was a comp pick #99). In the best case scenario, where were moving up ~17 slots, that would be equivalent to getting a 2nd and a 3rd for KC.

Yes. The 10 million roster bonus for 2027 was guaranteed at signing. That transfers to Minnesota. Thats no biggie for Minnesota. They can just steal an extra 10 million by opening up a couple more "learing" centers.

The Raiders are dealing from a position of strength in relation to the Vikings, trading two high value players(KC and top half of the second rd pick) for one bottom of round 1 pick doesn’t add up to me. The Vikings should pay a PREMIUM to get what they must think will be a key piece to a deep playoff run. Cousins playing well against the Niners will increase his value to Vikings.

What is your bottom line? If they win the SB they have picks 32, 64 and 96. Are you thinking they can get pick 32? Spytek should obviously have that as his initial ask. I think thats an overreach, but if Spytek can pull that off, then Salut, Don Corleone. Or are you wanting pick 64? I would take either pick 64 for KC straight up, or the pick swap I posted before.

Yeah....as of righty now the Vikes pick is around Pick #30 of the 1st round. They would have to give up way more than that before I'd pull the trigger for what amounts to a early 2nd round pick.
