With all the police crime shows back in the 70’s I remember reading an article that had a poll among law enforcement asking which show was the most realistic.

Barney Miller was #1

Watched Barney Miller religiously when it was in its original run. I thought it was very funny back then. I hadnt seen reruns for 40+ years until just recently. It didnt seem as funny as I remembered it. Still a good show but like all those successful sitcoms, they keep going too long. They run out of original ideas and start relying on the same old tired jokes and character stereotypes for laughs. I never really appreciated her in the show, especially in the 1st season where they would shoot scenes at Barney's apartment. Barney was the straight guy in the show and she wasnt amusing in her own right, so those scenes seemed superfluous. They cut those out, and occaisonally she would just visit the stationhouse. What made the show funny was the offbeat special guest characters interacting with the regulars.

Imo, one of the best, funniest shows of Barney Miller was the "Brownies" show. yemana's "mushee mushee" and old man fish hurdling walls and cans
