Having holes to run through helps.

The Raider section of the article:
Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas is the inspiration for this exercise. No team stated its plan more clearly in the offseason and has so far followed through like the Raiders. New head coach Klint Kubiak has made a team that was a disaster in 2025 look competent. Kubiak said bluntly that the team would not rush No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza onto the field; they don’t have to with starter Kirk Cousins playing well — and getting protection enough to step into explosive throws courtesy of an offensive line re-anchored around offseason investment Tyler Linderbaum at center. The staff has built a clear plan for last year’s first-rounder, RB Ashton Jeanty, in both run and pass phases and supported him with a complementary player, Mike Washington, who looks like a real find. The Raiders' much-maligned defense, now coached by first-year coordinator Rob Leonard, is No. 3 in pressure rate and No. 1 in takeaways.

Teams played for: Seattle Seahawks (SB contender), KC Chiefs (SB contender). Defenses aren't stacking the box and daring Patrick Mahomes (you know, the HOFer?) to throw.

I don't think we'll see a big drop off if Roger's or Zuhn is starting. I just don't think JPJ is anything special and he's definitely replaceable

First and most importantly you and only you stated low pick, all I did was list his pick and performance, no words like low.mranquales wrote: Thu Oct 01, 2026 1:34 pm Teams played for: Seattle Seahawks (SB contender), KC Chiefs (SB contender). Also: The second round is a low pick now? Talk about moving the goal posts. What's next? Josh Jacobs was a low pick too?
Right.
But ok maybe I am alluding to it some, I'll play your game here.
So yeah it's 38 lower than the leading Raider rusher. It is a lower pick and I never said it was a low pick. Yes I do feel there is a sizeable difference between 6 and 44 still.
You know what sucks is you have a way on making me (probably others to) hate on a player that I'm not really trying to, but you white knight certain players to the hilt and we'll I'm much more flexible and reasonable to nuance.
So yeah here I'll say it: Jeanty hurt or not, he's playing, no excuse. He needs to run the rock better! Line has to block better to. It's a combo for sure. Being 31rst in average per run sucks. This currently is the team weakness as everywhere else were doing surprising well or well enough. WR catching would be the other, but as an overall catching unit we are ok. Can you argue that? You probably can.
So while you try to make me hate on a player, I see hate in your own way, you already have predetermined the answer can't be Washington and to me there isn't a reasonable sample size to make a conclusion. I haven't really even concluded anything yet with Ashton.
I hope Spytek has had this conversation with his son, Jeanty wasn't a no brainer pick and I hope the youngster learns from this.

This part of your statement would have some validity if not for the fact that you were quoted as thinking he was drafted too high day 1. You, like others, are looking for any reason to discredit him in order to validate your pre-judgement. A common trait in NPD, but everyone who has this trait doesn't have clinical NPD.SkullCrusher wrote: Thu Oct 01, 2026 1:48 pm You know what sucks is you have a way on making me (probably others to) hate on a player that I'm not really trying to, but you white knight certain players to the hilt and we'll I'm much more flexible and reasonable to nuance.
Also, I'm not white knighting Jeanty. He's a good player who has potential to be great, and he plays for the Raiders. He's our first-round pick and never played for any other team. Why wouldn't I support him?
When people state things that I interpret as bias or false, I'm going to confront them. I'm the same way in real life.
I agree, it's a combination of being hurt and the line. Watching film, I've had some vision critiques of Jeanty (as someone who never made it to the NFL), but I've had just as many of Washington. So yeah here I'll say it: Jeanty hurt or not, he's playing, no excuse. He needs to run the rock better! Line has to block better to. It's a combo for sure.
We have a small sample size. All I can logically do is go by when Jeanty was healthy, and he played at an elite level by my estimation. The Chargers game, both RBs got stuffed, and Washington looked worse-- there's a reason why he got a carry reduction for two games.
The narrative that Washington is just balls out better is false. If Washington wanted to definitively prove that he would have gone off against the Chargers. If he had done that, I'd be the FIRST person to admit I was wrong and Washington may be equal or potentially better than Jeanty.
But he didn't. So now I'm looking to the Chiefs game to affirm my assessment of him.
Being 31rst in average per run sucks. This currently is the team weakness as everywhere else were doing surprising well or well enough.
I'd say it has more to do with Kirk playing out of his mind right now. If not for a WR slipping, Kirk hasn't made a mistake in two games. He's having a Rich Gannon-like run, and it's not hyperbole. I don't know if he can sustain it, but we're seeing the best version of Kirk Cousins right now.I can agree with that. We need to establish the run to make Kirk's job easier.
WR catching would be the other, but as an overall catching unit we are ok. Can you argue that? You probably can.
That, and Brock Bowers got healthy just in the nick of time.
Eh, I'd say it has more to do with I haven't seen anything from Washington yet that would justify the hype that he's getting. The best version of Jeanty can safely be proclaimed as one of the best RBs in the NFL. I loved Washington's touchdown run, he put some juice back into our team when we needed it, but I'd hold off a bit on the RB1 talk until I see him do it against a team that knows who they are.So while you try to make me hate on a player, I see hate in your own way, you already have predetermined the answer can't be Washington and to me there isn't a reasonable sample size to make a conclusion. I haven't really even concluded anything yet with Ashton.
I hope Spytek has had this conversation with his son, Jeanty wasn't a no brainer pick and I hope the youngster learns from this.
In Jeanty's class, there aren't many players drafted before or after him that you could argue are objectively better. Jeanty is only in his second year, and we're 3-0 with him. Don't know how you could explain how much better we'd be without him. There's nothing higher than undefeated.

I'm happy to see more of Washington, but Jeanty is really good and will get his too. I bet he hit the jugs machine a ton this week.
Walker has great numbers this year, but Kelce scares me more. And I can emotionally handle losing to a big game from Walker while I'll be unhinged by Kelce killing us..... again.

Been fan since ‘82… feel free to yell at me here
I just don’t feel good about matching up with Reid and Mahomes..it almost makes me anxious watching Sunday haha.
Too many beat downs and other close games we could have won outside a shitty call
Or ten…that Monday night one when we have Davante.
Any one else feeling the same way or am I just a big pussy?
Guess I need to see it before I believe it.. also,I’m in Missouri..so it’s been terrible for a while for me

Nope that's not how I work.mranquales wrote: Thu Oct 01, 2026 2:44 pm This part of your statement would have some validity if not for the fact that you were quoted as thinking he was drafted too high day 1. Quote me on stating bias as fact please.
Yes I do think he was drafted too high generally speaking, but that was the position we had.
I wasn't against it, I wasn't strongly for it either 'cause I do devalue RB's draft positioning, which is common amongst actual GMs.
But once your drafted a Raider I'm all for you killing it.
"Washington balls out better", you see those are your words.
I'm taking the Missouri approach, show me with him or really anyone.
You say you haven't seen anything from Washington to be better, well I'm not even saying better, but useful and should get more tries because he has produced since he got here, very well actually. Why do you deny that?
In my world Jeanty gets less mileage and it seems many think he maybe playing hurt so that's a good reason to level this out more.
I think Klint mentioned as much and Wash will get more attempts.

Worse we can do is come out of this 3-1 and if embarrassing it puts us more back to our original but still hopeful plans for the season.HesterLayes wrote: Thu Oct 01, 2026 3:39 pm Been fan since ‘82… feel free to yell at me here

If we win, we start getting even further away and expectations will grow really fast. Why not us? That's how football works.
LOL we both played the Missouri card in this tread. Show me, always that, show me.

Yes possibly. But it shows how you can get amazing talent further down then you normally would at other positions.Atlasffa wrote: Thu Oct 01, 2026 3:01 pm Kenny Walker III
