Completely disagree with this as a cap is absolutely required to even out the playing field in the game. If they only do a floor that does nothing to stop the dodgers, yankees from signing all the top players every year like what has been going on for some time. Now I'm sure fans of these two teams don't want a cap because of making the game more equal.

So that would mean the teams with the top payroll win more World Series than everybody else? I wonder what percentage of World Series winners had a top 5 payroll?ELCAraiderfan wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 7:51 am Completely disagree with this as a cap is absolutely required to even out the playing field in the game. Meanwhile teams that develop young players very well and then let them go because they don’t want to pay more continue to lose. See As and Pirates etc They have the money to spend but simply refuse to do so. That’s why with a cap, I’d also like to see a floor

No I agree on having both. I've been A's fan as long as I've been Raiders fan so mid 60's and I have been pissed off and tired of seeing so many good A's players get traded to other teams just because they don't want to or can't pay them to keep them.Xramfan wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 8:07 am So that would mean the teams with the top payroll win more World Series than everybody else? With the A's being in Oakland and having the same problems with money revenue as the Raiders had I could understand it, still hated it, but understood.
Now that they have left Oakland for Vegas via Sacramento we will see if they start spending money and keeping the players they develop.
The A's have given away so many good/great players for 60 years starting with Catfish Hunter. So yeah a floor and a cap is what's needed in MLB....imo

Last year a list was posted somewhere around here of what percentage of revenue each franchise used for player payroll. Multiple franchises including the giants and As had a lower percentage than many teams so it isnt that they couldn't afford to pay for players but rather they refused to do so.ELCAraiderfan wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 10:04 am No I agree on having both. If you are talking about Cashman, I don't see him as a problem. He's always trying to make the team better. He misses sometimes, but its the nature of the beast.

The talent evaluators and developers that Cashman assembled. How is it that TB can compete? The only thing Cashman knows how to do is to pay a gazillion dollars for players on the downslope of their careers.Rabidraider wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 6:26 am If you are talking about Cashman, I don't see him as a problem. Yankees are a consistent playoff team. Tampa bay has not been. Even poor teams make playoff runs every so often.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Tue Sep 15, 2026 11:40 pm The talent evaluators and developers that Cashman assembled. How is it that TB can compete? Cole, Max, Rodon have been good signings. Stanton's early years were fine. His playoffs were great. Not signing Soto was even better.
Would you rather be the Mets?

Without money, Cashman is nothing. Do you think TB would ever sniff the postseason if Cashman was their GM? Under Cashman's watch, Cam Schlitter is the only good pitcher the Yankees have developed since Andy Pettite. That is a disgrace.Rabidraider wrote: Fri Sep 18, 2026 8:09 pm Yankees are a consistent playoff team. Tampa bay has not been. Even poor teams make playoff runs every so often.

Lets see, Mariano Rivera the greatest closer in historyCruisin with Tooz wrote: Mon Sep 21, 2026 11:53 pm Without money, Cashman is nothing. Michael King, very good and traded for Soto
Luis Severino had some very nice years
Phil Huges
Nestor Corte
Dellin Betances very good setup pitcher

Ill give you Severino. He had 2 full seasons as a starter and was elite. Then he got injured. But the rest of your list justs points out how futile the Yankees have been at developing starters who became a mainstay in the rotation. Im refering to guys like Pettite who played many years and was solid to excellent during their tenure. Including Phil Hughes as a success story points out how barren home grown starting pitching has been. Hughes played 7 years for us and was bottom of the barrel. The only year he posted an ERA<4 was the year he was a reliever, and Im sure you are aware what that ERA would translate to as a starter. In 3 of the other 6 years he posted era's from 5.50-6.70. The other 3 years, 4+ mediocrity.Rabidraider wrote: Wed Sep 23, 2026 1:35 pm Lets see, Mariano Rivera the greatest closer in history

Cortez was a flash in the pan. 1& 1/2 very good years. The rest mediocre. Rivera was developed under Gene Michaels, not Cashman. Betances, a failed starter because of a lack of command.
Dont get me started about King. He is a perfect illustration of why Cashman should be fired. He never was a starter in our rotation. He spot started. He mostly relieved here. He had 3 years of control left. He was traded going into his Arb1 year for a FA to be. San Diego on day 1 hands him the ball and he has been a 3-year very good to elite inning-eating rotation piece for them on an arb-eligible salary. Cashman all over. Even when he has a winning lottery ticket, he forgets to cash it in.
