I was so stoked when Marinovich was drafted. I was in High School and if jerseys were a thing back then and FansEdge existed I would have forked out some cash for one.Willmark wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:20 pm In the history of Raiders QBs:
Marinovich: failure to reach his potential.
Carr- refusal to reach his potential.
I do remember by dad being pissed at the Snake comparisons saying something along the lines that Marinovich couldn't wash Stablers jock.
I was all in drinking the koolaid though. I am still bummed about Todd busting out.

Had he been left to have a normal childhood its interesting to speculate how he would turned out. He had all the tools to be a very good QB.Reno Hightower wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:30 pm I was so stoked when Marinovich was drafted. Gruden 2.0 was nothing like 1.0Reno Hightower wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:20 pm I am surprised Gruden tolerated it. I remember how he ripped another incumbent QB Randall Cunningham and elevated Roodney Peete because he didn't feel Cunningham was putting in the time watching film or grasping what he wanted done. He ran Jeff George out of town for the same reasons. Gruden was notoriously hard on QB's. It took some chutzpah to pull the pin on Al's prized free agent QB.
If that's the case all the more reason to believe Gru rolled into Oakland fat and happy, literarily, with a few mph's off his fastball.
Carr had his issues but I never believed a poor work ethic was one of them. Gannon spent some time with him and gave him high marks in that regard as well.
Now, Carr was a soft player after 2017. He earned that criticism.

The time period Attila is talking about was well before 5 kids. On another note, Carrs wife was married to an ATM machine with nearly an infinite amount of cash so I would venture to guess a woman in that position gives her hubby a massively long leash lol.raidersince63 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 12:08 pm Carr has been married for 14 years and has 5 children andI seriously doubt his wife would have put up with him playing 9 hours of video a day.
If you have a reputable outlet bolstering your erroneous claim, by all means, post it...I did not "bash" anyone and your "facts" are not factual.

Earl Legget's son was Todd's teammate at SC. Legget was very vocal that Al not draft Marinovich. He rightly reasoned that Los Angeles would be too much of a distraction and that Todd needed to go to a city like Green Bay or Minneapolis.Willmark wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:32 pm Had he been left to have a normal childhood its interesting to speculate how he would turned out. Al being Al went with Marv Marinovich's hardly unbiased endorsement that there wouldn't be any problems with Todd. Makes a person wonder how the 1990's could have went had the Raiders drafted Favre, who was still on the board?
Looking forward I really believe Mendoza can be the guy.

Great question. He certainly would have fit that mold Al was looking for. Whether or not the Old Man could have tolerated Favre's personality is the question.Reno Hightower wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 2:01 pm Earl Legget's son was Todd's teammate at SC. That has little to do with someone claiming that Carr "played 9 hours of video a day during the off season"?Xramfan wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:46 pm The time period Attila is talking about was well before 5 kids. It was a thing. We went over it a lot on here. I don't really want to bring up the name of the person who I think was responsible for bringing it to our attention tho.raidersince63 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 2:30 pm That has little to do with someone claiming that Carr "played 9 hours of video a day during the off season"?

I do remember his video game logs being posted on here. Idk where, what or who they came from but they were posted. I also remember that there was drama about it involving him. I didn't pay much attention to it because I was over him already by that pointraidersince63 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 12:08 pm Carr has been married for 14 years and has 5 children andI seriously doubt his wife would have put up with him playing 9 hours of video a day.

Correct, hell, he used to post videos of himself playing. He took all that down and again, I am not computer savvy enough to recover them. But my eyes were not the only one's to see it.Xramfan wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:46 pm The time period Attila is talking about was well before 5 kids. But again, if I said the ball is round, some would say it is slightly oval so I just consider the source. But keep trying Chet, someone is bound to take your side. I even think we showed some of what I am talking about to the site owner. Hell, Xram saw some of the stuff.

It has been a while, but yea, the game logs, the videos and all that was on the site before the changeover. It was a fun time simply because someone ratted it all out and the boy wonder scrambled.Hellbound wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 3:19 pm I do remember his video game logs being posted on here. Yea I think his addictions had way more to do with him busting than what his actual ability didWillmark wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:32 pm Had he been left to have a normal childhood its interesting to speculate how he would turned out. He had all the tools to be a very good QB.

Someone who faked his death so he could pocket a bunch of FF money.raiderboyron wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 2:55 pm It was a thing. We went over it a lot on here. I don't really want to bring up the name of the person who I think was responsible for bringing it to our attention tho.

Yep. That had to be one of the weirdest episodes in the long tragicomic misery that is the various Raider forums we've been arguing on.Attyla wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 3:29 pm Someone who faked his death so he could pocket a bunch of FF money.
Hell, I think I may have joined the old site in 2006 and that made me late to the party. I know I was there in 2008 when we began the "purple drink" experiment.
