yeah haven't looked good in many phases, But we have yet to see the 1st team Offense and Defenses on the field. I and sure all of us are looking forward to and wondering what we will see against Miami. Crosby, Bowers, other starters haven't even played a down yet. I wonder if they will get a series or two tomorrow just to get some close to real game action before the season really starts.raider_kin wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2026 4:22 pm Not losing my mind (yet)
But you hope to at least look decent in Pre season, and we have looked like dog s**t.

Well... Mandoza's preseason performance left a lot to be desired. Very unimpressive. No need to be calling for him to start any time soon.

It is preseason and he is a rookie. He has the ability and works hard to perfect his craft plus he looks to be a good leader. Adversity will make him better not break him down.
I suppose he could be slurping the purple drank, lying about studying cutups and running around with a diamond neckless the size of a grapefruit.

Whatever happen to the dude who is never wrong and kept claiming that Mendoza is currently the better qb and hopes KC gets injured? You can make the argument that the sooner FM is the starter, the sooner he will arrive. But there is no question that KC is the better qb right now. Hes going to be the starter as long as he plays reasonably well and the team has some hope for the postseason.

He's still around and my guess is he'll still pass off his opinions as facts. Kind of like the one that the staff needs to do the right thing and start Fernando when he clearly isn't ready. Wishing a player gets injured just so a player you like can start just might take the cake though. Maybe I'm wrong but Ill root for the team to win no matter who the qb, hc, owner or cheerleader isCruisin with Tooz wrote: Thu Aug 27, 2026 10:49 pm Whatever happen to the dude who is never wrong and kept claiming that Mendoza is currently the better qb and hopes KC gets injured? It is okay, let him develop behind Cpt. Kirk for a season.Raider_Dave wrote: Thu Aug 27, 2026 8:23 pm Well... Mandoza's preseason performance left a lot to be desired. Very unimpressive. No need to be calling for him to start any time soon.

How do you learn to handle pressure in the pocket? You get pressure and you learn how to react to it. How do you learn to work your progressions? You fail to work the progressions and practice progressing through them. How do you learn how to manage the speed of the game? You are on the field seeing the speed and learn to process faster.WNYRAIDER wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2026 3:04 am ...I don't remember ever claiming that Mendoza is currently the better qb, or saying that I hoped that KC gets injured.

The game may have changed but you learn by doing. You do not learn by being treated like you are a China doll. Do I think he has earned the right to be our starter? No, but he was always going to be our starter given his draft status. Would I start Cousins over him? Until that line can give a guy more than half a second, probably. But that is simply because if someone is going to get beat up nonstop I do not want that to be Mendoza.
And I quoted you because I am wrong on occasion and wanted to bask in the shadow of someone who is never wrong.

Sure he hasn't looked great but preseason isn't really an indicator of regular season success. The team in general hasn't looked very good but there's a lot of moving parts with the 3rd coaching staff in the last three years. He's not landed in a situation like the Rams where the foundation is in place and training camp is pretty routine for most of the roster. Hopefully by the time he has to go in and play that the offense is operating at a higher level than the backups he's been playing with as he's going to need a little help.

I agree about best to learn under fire. So once it's clear this team isn't playoff bound with Cousins at QB, it's time to get Mendoza in there.Attyla wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2026 5:33 am How do you learn to handle pressure in the pocket? I really thought the line would take a step forward, enough to consider throwing him out there to start the year. It has not happened. But we are switching line play to more zone blocking. That is probably factoring in a lot. It is a real shame this team has neglected getting some good linemen for what seems like the better part of a decade. We used to be known for it, now we are known for getting our QBs killed.Raider_Dave wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2026 8:21 am I agree about best to learn under fire. Taking snaps under center is becoming a lost art. Mendoza operated predominately from the gun in college. Not only is he adjusting to the speed of the pro game but gaining new instincts about QB play.
It was infuriating watching Geno last season hand the Jeanty the ball out of the gun and then watch [Jeanty] get hit in the backfield. I have never seen a running back work that hard for a 1,000 yard season (975). There was zero semblance of balance in the slop Chip Kelly put out there and called an offense. Geno sucked, but it wasn't all on him.
I would rather see him learn the right way and not jump into the NFL, rely on his athleticism to make plays and then regress. All to often a young QB storms out of the gate and plays at a high level until the game film catches up with them, CJ Stroud...
Kubiak appears to be playing the long game with Fernando. There is a lot of retooling going on with the OL, Cousins will be earning his pay this season.
