The New Era Begins, The Unofficial Official Game Day Thread
Training wheels come off, it is time to make this a reality.
Welcome to the NFL Mendoza, and welcome to being the leader of the Raiders Klint Kubiak. Let's get this thing going. And yea, as always, I sipped the Koolaid.

Also wanted to add about the defense, Greedy Vance and Lindenberg were making plays. Sloan and Patrick Johnson will be fighting for that last DE slot, both looked good. Hezzakai Masses was MIA, chalk it up to 1st game jitters. Porter needs to step up, this is his 2nd year. Dcam Richardson missed the game becuase he had a baby per Kubiak so hopefully he gets in next game and pushes the rookies.
Also, Kenyon Crawford has a great first step and is getting off the line quick, his issue is that he was over pursuing, so the RBs were running right past him on the play action…this is coachable. What’s hard to coach is when you don’t have that quick 1st step, which was evident in Tyree Wilson. I’m fully expecting Crawford and McCoy to evolve and make vast improvements as the season progresses.

I was on the road so tuned into the radio broadcast over Sirius XM. The broadcast team was JT the Brick, Matt Millen, and Eric Allen. This was THE WORST radio broadcast I have ever heard and I have been listening to and watching the NFL since 1969. JT failed to state the yard line, the down, who was doing what -- over and over again. For example, something like this: O'Connell looks right -- completes it over the middle..." not saying who caught the ball, on what yard line, etc. And then starts chatting with Millen and Allen about whatever. Meanwhile Eric Allen is guffawing and howling with laughter over just about anything. He and Millen talked so much, JT failed to do the play-by-play over 50% of the time. Millen gushed over AOC, calling him a "great QB" and "I have thought so for years." I have heard way better broadcasts for UC Davis and Sacramento State where I live. It was almost completely unlistenable but it was my only choice for a couple of hours. Ugh.

People kept saying he reminds them of Adrian Peterson or someone else... I always thought he looked like McFadden. Both of them were Razorbacks too

Yea, no. Millen was a great player, he was a horrible GM. And O'Connell got his chances, he just played bad when he got the chance, and the last preseason game is a prime example. Just stopmranquales wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2026 10:11 pmMatt Millen knows talent. AOC just never got the opportunity.

He pulled off under center just fine. He is still learning to set up like that consistently but his back foot was set perfectly at the end of the drop. But more importantly, he was scanning the field as he dropped back. That is what you want, trusting your feet while taking that second and a half to go through your progressions. If he can master this, and he has a ways to go, it will vastly improve our running game.Opoponax50 wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2026 1:53 pm He had some happy feet goin' so he's not all that comfortable going from center to the pocket just yet. But he did lead a scoring drive, and on the TD throw his feet were set and he threw a dart. He'll get there and I'm glad we have a competent bridge in the meantime.

this could add up to seattle rb situation real quick, washington could become charbs in yr 2 ...people forgetting that ken walker was the future then they drafted charb and it went 70/30 to almost 50/50 last yr until charbs was injured

I had to listen to it on the radio too, but no way was it worse than Brent Musberger's days as our radio announcer.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2026 9:29 pm I was on the road so tuned into the radio broadcast over Sirius XM. "Carr brings the offense to the line..." then nothing until "Carr hands off to the running back..." then he wouldn't even say how many yards the RB got until a few seconds later when he'd say, "It's 2nd and 7..." Even worse was, "Carr drops back..." and then nothing; you didn't know if it was incomplete, complete, or how many yards were gained.
The broadcast booth did do a lot of bullshitting, and they weren't that good, but it felt more like a get together for a preseason game; a kind of "Isn't it great to be back" than a serious broadcast, which in this case was fine with me. Besides, I had to listen on the radio last year and I always felt like I knew what was happening during the game.

The NFL Network replay was decent but by no means was it sharp. That said, I was surprised by Cousins quick stint. He looked fresh out there. I was wrong, Cousins is a good example for Mendoza and seems to be embracing his role as mentor. He knows the checks he is getting are likely some of his last and he is taking advantage of that in a positive way.Opoponax50 wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 8:34 am I had to listen to it on the radio too, but no way was it worse than Brent Musberger's days as our radio announcer.

That horse has been ridden and it’s time to put it out to pasture. Aiden is a good kid but by no means a starting Quarterback in the league. I’m not sure he can even make a 53 man roster at this point for any team.mranquales wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2026 10:11 pmMatt Millen knows talent. AOC just never got the opportunity.
Might be best to focus on a real hopeful guy like we now have. Would probably get a few less eye rolls from most here instead of trying to make Aiden into something he’s just not.

I think he finds a spot if we release him. There are a lot of complete train wreck QBs in the league and he can replace one of them I think.Viper wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 9:19 am That horse has been ridden and it’s time to put it out to pasture.
