Im not worried. Mendoza doesnt possess elite athleticism or elite arm talent that can wow quickly. His elite traits are intellligence, toughness, work ethic, and overall mental makeup. He was a far superior QB to end his season at Indiana then he was at the start of the season. I expect the same this year. If that doesnt happen then it may be time to worry.

Hard to tell if the good and bad reports we've been reading about FM are accurate or not so we just don't know about the Raiders future plans yet, and we probably won't know for a while longer.

The regular season can't start soon enough for me.
I like the preseason and we'll get the chance to see Mendoza 1st hand because
he hasnt exactly been lighting it up.in camp.

Go look at Elways struggles in his rookie year. I'm going from memory but I kinda followed because of the AL/Rosell fiasco. Extreme expectations. John was eventually benched for a time during the season. . I just hope the media crap doesn't get to our boy. The internet provides MANY more avenues to provide negative fodder than back in those (stone tablet) days.

He was surrounded by a great supporting cast of players and great coaching at Indiana last year so I suppose the question may be "Was he a product of Indiana, or was Indiana a product of him?"
and ill add the last thing we want is to throw him out there with 52 guys who have as much knowledge of the system as he does and end up 3-14.

Enter the bust band wagon that f[raiders_icon]cks his heads.
Let them ALL lean whats going on.
Let the coaches evaluate the team with film from 2026.
Let then have another free agent period, Draft, mini camp, OTA, camp and preseason.
If he walk onto the field next year and sucks they'll be no excuses.

Kirk is a one year deal. Get him on film also.

Yes and that learning takes time. How much? Idfk.
In California he started 19 games and his record was 9-10.
Wasn't till his 3rd year as a starter in indy he produced anything.

Im waiting a year if only I had a vote but I dont.
Im warming up popcorn.

Yeah, that is why I prefaced it by saying "Take from it what you will".

On Thursday night, we will see with our own eyes.

Yes, the defenses are vanilla, yes he will be playing against second teamers.

But Fernando Mendoza will be wearing a Raider jersey. He will be taking snaps and throwing balls. Hopefully, he will play for the majority of the first half, as well as the rest of the rookies trying to earn first team/future first team roles.

Kirk should start the game, he’s earned that, but I hope he’s out after a drive or two. If he’s as advertised, he should be plug and play for Kubiak. Let him lead the troops out, but he should mostly ready to roll.

Get the first team OUT, I’ve never been more excited to see the second team play

Ultimately, he shined when he got really good coaching, so here is hope that he continues to learn the job. I am not concerned about some half assed reports from the cheap seats. We get to see where he is at in actual game situations very soon and that is all that matters.

Peyton Manning also. He threw more picks than TDs and the Colts only won 3 games that year

To highlight it even more, that was his second season - after they unloaded Alex Smith and made him the starter with no parachute.

Look how that worked out. McCarthy is more than likely losing the job to Kyler Murray.

Having to say you are being sarcastic defeats the purpose. JJ mccarthy is terrible and clearly the post was sarcastic.
