That's my point. How do you know he's real after a handful of games?RI RAIDER wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2026 11:50 am Never said that. Just like Drake Maye, you want to know if your QB is real or not. Every QB grows just like every player as time goes on.

Much less last season related more just he seems almost as unknown as if he was a rookie this year.Hellbound wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2026 11:25 am I think a bit too much h is being made about his rookie season. For whatever reason we had a seemingly 40yr old Lockett starting over him plus, plenty of wrs take a yr or two to adjusted to the NFL. Not saying he's going to succeed but let's see what he can do in a competent system/coaching and some real playing time. For whatever reason, some players are given a mulligan for last year, he's not getting one. Idk why some do & some don't

He played most of his first season. They made an assessment that he was the real deal. They spent big in FA (not on a QB) the following offseason. They got rid of their QB competition (from their previous season) and did not draft a QB. These are indicators that they felt they had the real deal. Guess what? They were right.

I was speaking more in terms of Mendoza than Maye. I don't think Mendoza is playing most of the season. I just don't think they'll definitively "know" after the year. Could there be indicators? Sure. Unless the coaches see something in practice that we the fans won't be privy to.RI RAIDER wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2026 1:11 pm He played most of his first season. How brock Bowers fits into Klint Kubiak's offense? No, it should be how Klint Kubiak's offense fits into Brock Bowers.Atlasffa wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2026 10:56 am
Content of video:
"Raiders training camp begins this week, and before the first practice gets underway, Jesse Merrick breaks down everything you need to know heading into one of the most important camps in recent franchise history.
With Klint Kubiak taking over, Fernando Mendoza beginning his rookie season, and major battles taking shape across the roster, this is the foundation for what the 2026 Raiders could become.

Kirk Cousins vs. Fernando Mendoza
Why the offensive line could define the season
Ashton Jeanty and the new rushing attack
Which receivers need to step up
How Brock Bowers fits into Klint Kubiak's offense
The biggest questions on defense

He was pretty slow coming out of college with a 4.49 40, Mike Washington Jr is a 4.33 guy. I would like to see us get fast guys and not slow ones, we already have a fullback and Jeanty isnt a burner, so we only have Washington that is fast on our RB squad. I also hope we can cut Dylan Laube this season also, he doesnt really bring anything to table for us.

You are correct, however I'd still take ending this year where Mendoza looks legit.DeathStar24 wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2026 11:27 am No QB is a finished product after a few games. There is way too much room for growth.
Definitely doesn't means he's over the hump, still hasn't faced most teams and the more tape the more they learn.
I don't feel NE's QB Drake is even over this hump yet.
I sort of keep that you need 3 consecutive years of really good play to prove you are simply great and near unquestionable.
But again, still looking legit exiting this year to me would be promising.
It's also like lets say we have a real surprise year as a team, there's way more one-hit wonder teams than perennial one's.
Everyone wants to be a perennial winner. There's a handful of these teams.
EDIT: Wanted to add, I think this was from last week but I do feel 3 games that are based on where you ended last year are a fair difference maker to your schedule and creates some one year wonders. For example the first place team will play 3 more first place teams this year that the forth while they are out there playing around with other 4th places instead.
