I'm sure he feels like a #1 type player and a little miffed at #4 pay. But that's how it goes. Do great on the rookie deal and the Raiders will gladly pay him as a star.
I love the pick.

Love that he's signed. Interested to see how he does in preseason.

Meanwhile, we could've had a potentially solid backup or an under the radar guy like Maxx was. Instead, we wasted a pick on a guy who may not be able to see the field in any appreciable way until 2027, which would mean that he wouldn't have played a down in any game, college or pro, in over two years. And that's IF he can ever play again at all.Rabidraider wrote: Wed Jul 22, 2026 3:40 pm I'm sure he feels like a #1 type player and a little miffed at #4 pay. But that's how it goes. It's far more likely that we wasted a pick and spent money on a guy that will never contribute to the team. Good for him, but he's the only one who's going to get anything out of this deal.

Or he could end up being the steal of the draft and play like the top-10 pick that everyone predicted he'd be.Opoponax50 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 8:19 am Meanwhile, we could've had a potentially solid backup or an under the radar guy like Maxx was. Even if he only plays 3–5 years, that's still a legitimate Super Bowl window for this team. If we see the gradual progression and acceleration we're expecting and hoping for over the next 2–3 seasons, McCoy could be a major contributor to making that happen.

They must be more confident than you he can hold out. I can see being against someone with a major injury concern even in round 4.Opoponax50 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 8:19 am Meanwhile, we could've had a potentially solid backup or an under the radar guy like Maxx was. But they must think his chances of playing and surviving are better than you, and that taking a swing at an impact player here was worth it compared to what the average 4th rounder turns out to be. Its risky, but theres also risk the solid player you try instead isnt hurt but isnt good enough to hold a roster space. Or is but isnt very good.
I do dislike having to worry about it at all, but who knows what the perfect risk/reward calculation is for it to be a smart move at the time. Im psyched about his potential, his pro times, and some orthopedic expert optimism based on how small it is.- These users gave a High Five to the author powski for the post:

That's where I'm at with McCoy...is he a gamble? Of course, all draft picks are, but if he only gives us 4-5 years of being a PREMIUM defender, it's still a great pick.ALLRAIDERWORLD21 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 3:26 pm Or he could end up being the steal of the draft and play like the top-10 pick that everyone predicted he'd be.

Okay, is it more likely that he'll be the steal of the draft or that he's a guy the coaching staff hopes will pan out but never does?ALLRAIDERWORLD21 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 3:26 pm Or he could end up being the steal of the draft and play like the top-10 pick that everyone predicted he'd be.

This is a pretty easy prediction given that the great majority of players never become stars. Thus, how likely is it that a guy who hasn't been on the field in 18 months is going to be a star?
I hope I'm wrong and I'll be happy to eat crow if I am, but like I said, this one's a pretty easy bet.
