I think Carson Beck singed yesterday, so it's starting.raidersince63 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 7:25 am Gotta believe that if Mendoza gets his money up front, his agent does as well, but yeah, it's probably about the Raiders past history and them not wanting to create a new "precedent".
I think all 4 of the unsigned QBs are hoping one of the others signs first and use that as a gauge/lever to maybe help negotiations for the other 3...and once the first one signs, the others will be close behind.

F'ing seriously. This feels like a dick measuring contest at this point. My position is to pay the kid in full like he wants and put this bullshit to rest. It's become a distraction no one needs. This is the opportunity the organization and fanbase have been waiting for since the Purple Drank debacle. We're incredibly lucky that the cards fell our way in order to get the #1 pick. Let's not f*** it up.Raider_Dave wrote: Wed Jul 22, 2026 9:02 pm Pretty hard to believe this is a big sticking point. WTF difference does it matter if a small % of the signing bonus is delayed for a few months? It's all guaranteed right?
That goes for both sides.

I honestly can't see the purpose in this. The only advantage to the Raider organization is to possibly earn some interest on the money kept until fall. Given the value of NFL teams, that interest would be peanuts. There's a less than zero chance Mendoza will not be on the roster come October, so get the kid signed and be done with the headache.JRaider17 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 7:57 am According to Q, the Raiders usually pay their first rounds like 75% of the bonus at signing, then the rest in two payments throughout the year. The thing is though supposedly since Burrow was drafted number 1, the number 1 pick gets 100% at signing.
Besides precedent, maybe someone can shed some light on this issue.

My guess is this is at least partially salary cap related.
The salary cap is affected by cash changing hands, not theoretical dollars. If you paid out cash, it will be on your salary cap for that league year.
That’s why a player like Ruggs affected our cap for a while, because even tho it was easy to prove conduct detrimental to team, we had already paid him cash up front for the year. Since we weren’t able to get that cash back, it affected our cap number.
This plays into the current situation in 2 ways.
First, we may have other uses planned for the money he is asking for. We probably want to remain as liquid as possible for camp cuts etc., and paying 75% instead of 100% gives us more flexibility for this year.
Second, as others have mentioned, it is precedent. But not just in a stubborn way, I think they are thinking about downstream effects on cap management.
Without looking at our cap figures, I would guess that we can afford to take on 100% of his contract this year while maintaining flexibility going into camp (I am only basing this on the idea that we had a lot of cash at the start of the offseason, so it could be off). But what about future years when such a transaction would make our budget tight?
The 75% figure seems to be part of our cap strategy, and so this might be partially about making sure we are able to keep offering that number.

Damnit, it's getting to where it's hard to know what's accurate or not anymore. I was going by an article claiming to have been updated about 5 hours ago that said that all 4 remaining QBs were still unsigned.SkullCrusher wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 7:58 am I think Carson Beck singed yesterday, so it's starting.
SMH...but thanks for the correction.

I hope that Mendoza is shielded from all of this other than knowing if he's signed yet or not.Opoponax50 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 8:23 am F'ing seriously. If he's in the middle, seems crazy if he were, that's way too much brain cells going there.
I'm going to assume this is being handled by da suits.

I think it's a little funny the top 4 QB's and there is a comparison of the #1 overall to a 3rd round QB, imo different worlds there.raidersince63 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 9:10 am Damnit, it's getting to where it's hard to know what's accurate or not anymore. But they are all fighting for the same thing, even though one's 60 million and another's 5.
QB's feel they deserve to get all the money at signing where other positions don't.

This stuffs fluid, no big and I'm not 100% certain it is done. When I read about it sounded a little rumor'ish like.raidersince63 wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 9:10 am Damnit, it's getting to where it's hard to know what's accurate or not anymore. Yup, and during the next CBA, you just know that the owners will claim they're going broke.SkullCrusher wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 9:53 am This stuffs fluid, no big and I'm not 100% certain it is done. When I read about it sounded a little rumor'ish like.
