WHAT GOOD COULD COME FROM SITtING THE #1 PICK ??? we know cousins is not the future, we know fernando is a student of the game and wants to be great ...get him going and let him learn instead of wasting 4 games or more with cousins, experience is what fernando needs, not baby sittingDr Death wrote: Sat Jul 18, 2026 6:32 pm I don't disagree.... and I'm an old head. I do think Cousins should start the season since we signed him to do just that. But... I don't disagree with you or others that see it the same way you do. I think Doza should sit a few games before he gets thrown into the fire. I think he needs to play the largest percentage of the games this next season. I think it's the best way for him to acclimate to the NFL game. If he takes a few big time hits along the way............. welcome to the NFL.

agree 100 pct with this statement, fernando needs experience and wasting 4 or more game with cousin at the helm is wasting time imoBoKnows81 wrote: Sat Jul 18, 2026 7:00 pm There are certain rookies and certain situations where i agree that rookie should sit. Mendoza is not one of those rookies and this is not one of those situations. Especially if he's been the best QB all offseason. Starting Cousins for 3-4 games is pointless and only delays the inevitable.

So Attyla, aren't we going to have a bet on whether or not Mendoza starts week 1?

the reason is to make sure we have a functional offensive line. On paper we do but until the real games start, we don’t know.mstrbass2000 wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 7:21 am WHAT GOOD COULD COME FROM SITtING THE #1 PICK ??? we know cousins is not the future, we know fernando is a student of the game and wants to be great ...get him going and let him learn instead of wasting 4 games or more with cousins, experience is what fernando needs, not baby sitting

Most second string QB's take about 10% of the snaps with the first team. Given the situation we have I believe Mendo will take about 40-50% of those snaps with the firsts. That is where he will get experience. I can't believe you guys think its a good idea to throw him to the wolves week one.mstrbass2000 wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 7:23 am agree 100 pct with this statement, fernando needs experience and wasting 4 or more game with cousin at the helm is wasting time imo
Lets get our line settled, let him learn the offense, let him get used to the speed of the pros game.
If he doesn't start the first 4-6 games he's not going to be on vacation somewhere, he will be on the sideline watching and learning.

i bet fernando already knows the offense better then some of the coachs, as for the oline and waiting what happens if cousins is the starter for 4-6 games and kolton miller gets injured again or others get injured ??? do we continue waiting on the oline or do we throw fernando in the games with a much worse olineraider_kin wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 7:37 am Most second string QB's take about 10% of the snaps with the first team. ps the only way to get used to the speed of the game is to play in the game, not sit on the sideline holding a clipboard

the problem with this is what happens when oline guys get injured and the line is way worse then at the beginning of the yr ...everybody knows oline is one of th emost injured on the fieldRunOverByHubbard wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 7:36 am the reason is to make sure we have a functional offensive line. lets say cousin play the first 4-6 with healthy oline and then we throw in fernando minus kolton miller at left tackle is fernando better off ???
id rather the kid gets up to speed with fully healthy oline

Once again, QB play affects the O line. Our O line is likely to have a rougher go with Cousins starting.

Yup, that's where I'm still at...will Mendoza be a better QB option than Cousins?...well, he better be!FLORIDARAYDAH wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 7:10 am I really don't care if Mendoza starts the season under center or not. I can see both sides of the argument. It all depends on how ready the staff feels he is. If he is clearly looking the best then throw him in there. He isnt a wilting flower who will shrink under pressure. If he isnt ready it doesn't hurt a thing if Cousins starts the season. I don't see it stunting his development . He seems like a guy who will be learning all the time. He will be the starter soon enough.
I don't think our O line will be as bad as some do. Not thinking they are great by a long shot but not as bad as last season where nobody could succeed. I see a middle of the road line that won't get Mendoza killed
But as long as management feels that the OL has made significant strides compared to last year (and we may have a good indication of that by opening day), I have no issue with Mendoza starting day 1 if they also feel he is ready . If not, there's no need to be hasty and knowingly throwing him into a situation that does not help set him up for success.

Yeah, I know how painful it has been watching this franchise's ineptitude over the last several years but this year really seems like it has promise for the future. And I don't see any reason to deny that this off season has a different feel considering our draft and other acquisitions, not to mention the changes in management.raider_kin wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 7:26 am Yo know guys, I have been a Raider fan since 1980, and I don't believe I have ever been this jacked for a season to begin.

We have some growing pains and learning curves to overcome but I still believe we will be markedly better.

Elway started his rookie season and looked like shit, so Dan Reeves benched him for a month. Elway said it was the best thing to happen to him in his entire career with respect to learning the game and the system because it gave him a third person perspective he couldn't have gotten otherwise.
Brady has said things along very similar lines.
I'll take two HOF QBs opinions infinitely more seriously than some of the voices here.

Just out of curiosity, I know you were very against AOC starting ahead of Mendoza, as was I. But i have to ask, what is your reasoning for being so against AOC starting but so for Cousins starting? They both offer the exact same at this point. And that is nothing.Opoponax50 wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 8:39 am Elway started his rookie season and looked like shit, so Dan Reeves benched him for a month.
