My word, there is so little real news these days. Clicking on speculative stories about trades and personality issues gets old. Try this instead:
The Raiders-Dolphins playoff game, know as the Sea of Hands game, is covered in great depth by NFL Films on YouTube for free. One of the interviewees is one of my favorite Raiders of all time - Phil Villapiano. I had not watched this game for over 20 years and I had forgotten all of the twists and turns of this classic playoff game. Re-live the work of Art Shell, Cliff Branch, and especially Freddie B. See how players used to really be allowed to hit ball carriers, QBs, and WRs with almost full abandon. It is a great distraction from the boring off-season and the doldrums we are in right now. Click on the YouTube link and enjoy:

I remember losing to Pittsburg the following game and it was stated the way the Raiders celebrated the win vs Miami pissed them off because many said it was the Superbowl or some other nonsense.

We lost to the Steelers the next week because they had the best defense in the NFL and maybe the best defense in league history. The Bears Super Bowl winning defense was great but the Steelers was great for many years. It was filled with Pro Bowl and Hall of Fame players. I can still name every one of the starting 11. In our loss, we rushed the ball 21 times for jut 29 yards! We did get 279 yards passing. In the Super Bowl, the Vikings rushed 21 times for 17 yards! They only got 109 yards passing and Tarkenton threw three INTs - despite no sacks!. Talk about a dominant defense.

Yes, I believe people called the Sea of Hands game the Super Bowl, but Pittsburgh was not going to beat us because they were mad. They were f[raiders_icon]cking great, that's why. The Raiders were a great football team for years, but the Steelers had a better defense, year in and year out.

BTW, the announcers for that game were Curt Gowdy, Al DeRogatis and Don Meredith. Dandy Don was on Monday Night Football but when to NBC for three years to join Curt Gowdy. He went back to MNF to finish he career there.

Another interesting part of the lore from the 1970's involving Tatum and Atkinson (our criminal element): Mel Blount sued Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Chuck Noll in 1977 for defamation of character. During a slander trial involving an Oakland Raiders player, Noll was pressed to admit that his own players also used physical, dirty tactics, and he named Blount as part of the league's "criminal element". In response to Noll's comments, Atkinson sued the Steelers coach for $2 million in a slander and defamation lawsuit. During the trial in Oakland, Atkinson's defense team showed game footage of the Steelers' defense and grilled Noll on the field behavior of his own players. On the witness stand, Noll was forced to concede that certain players on his own team could fit into the same "criminal element" description, specifically naming Blount. Incensed by his coach's public remarks, Blount filed his own $5 million defamation suit against Noll. Blount went on a contract holdout and threatened that he would never play for Noll again. Ultimately, Noll was cleared of the charges brought by Atkinson, and cooler heads prevailed. Blount eventually dropped his lawsuit, reached an agreement with the organization, and returned to the team later that summer.

For us older fans, those were the days... Enjoy the off-season guys in your non-football activities and work.

Chic McGee, who's a radio personality on the Bob and Tom show, was a sports writer or radio sports guy back in the day. They were talking about women in the locker room on one show and he blurts out: "Kenny King of the Raiders had the biggest (schlong) he'd ever seen in a locker room" (loose quote)!
So other attributes besides being a good running back.

Bumping this. Why? Because it is so SLOW that you really should spend a few minutes watching the condensed version of this incredible game.

Do you know why Pete Banaszak’s nickname was Rooster? In Ken Stabler’s autobiography he reveals that the size of Pete’s cock was memorable.

In a related vein, my sister hung out in Oakland a bit back in the day. She went to Uppy’s in Jack London Square - the bar owned by Gene Upshaw and would chat up a few Raiders players. In fact, she once sat in Art Shell’s lap. Anyway one of the players told her that Al Davis used to stand at the edge of the showers and check out the players bodies. True story. Bringing up Banaszak’s schlong reminded me of that. Thanks Attyla.

My sister could get a little wild at times. We went to see the great, late Freddie King at The Keystone in Palo Alto and she got up on stage and did the now extinct dance The Bump with Freddie. BTW it was a great show. I went to see him because I needed to complete seeing the Three Kings —- B.B., Albert, and Freddie. Each was great.

SD in the 4th just scored a TD on 4th and 1 to tie at 24-24.
Then this happened back to back, capped by Christen doing Michael Jackson. (bonus prime Al shots)
Great call on that game, amazing football. Almost every game of the 1980 season is available in full on YT, I've been watching them reliving the season. It's a great season and important to me because as a 9 year old at the time it was basically the first season I watched most of the games. And watching it with my brother then is a great memory. One of them being Chuck Muncy and his butter fingers, which I couldn't remember why we made fun of him all the time and that kickoff fumble is why!
