It's one thing to be scared and "rolled up in a corner" and a completely different thing to "wish to get punched in the mouth". It was a bad line to use to try and explain that Mendoza is tough. Yeah he's tough but he and no other quarterback wants to get punched in the mouth to get themselves moving. If that is what it takes to get you moving you are not very good, because self motivated people don't need others to get them to their highest level.mstrbass2000 wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2026 7:08 am i guaranty fernando is not rolled up in a ball in the corner hoping he doesn't get contact...thats not what winner do and fernando is a winner as proven by vs ohio state and miami where he was getting punched in the mouth and under pressure on more then 50% of the plays
And you guys trying to "help explain" what he meant, I know what he meant and it was not a good analogy he used.

So this dude's background seems to be as a passionate Raiders fan who disagrees with the front office on how to play this situation. Just because they count on starting Cousins over Fernando he sees that as him being an inferior #1 draft pick not worthy of his draft position. I say nobody is worthy of any draft position until they prove their worth on the field. And I say we made the correct choice and will be pretty happy down the road on both him and our new head coach.
And I also agree that he should sit at first.

Unbelievable and he and others are still trying to justify/explain that bad statement.raidersince63 wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2026 7:01 am Yes, I'm sure that prior to every game, Fernando says to himself "Man, I sure hope I get my lip bloodied, because if that happens we're sure to win".![]()

I know what he was trying to say but the statement was dumb.Toast wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2026 8:25 pm What he meant was that Mendoza is a bit of a scrapper on the field, which he is. Thug U beat the shit out of the kid in the National Championship game and it didn't phase him, even a little.
Some fold in those situations, some step up and win the ugly ones.

there is no need to "help explain" your excuses for sitting him were "let the oline gel and kill cousins instead of the crown jewel fernando" and mine were get him in there now...dudes not a glass doll...experience is what he needs sitting him for extended games so he doesn't get killed is nuts he has proven the ability to play at a very high level even when he got pounded by ohio state and miamiELCAraiderfan wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2026 2:32 pm It's one thing to be scared and "rolled up in a corner" and a completely different thing to "wish to get punched in the mouth". So if Mendo doesn't start opening day, does that mean that Kubiak doesn't know what he's doing?mstrbass2000 wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2026 2:37 pm there is no need to "help explain" your excuses for sitting him were "let the oline gel and kill cousins instead of the crown jewel fernando" and mine were get him in there now...dudes not a glass doll...experience is what he needs sitting him for extended games so he doesn't get killed is nuts he has proven the ability to play at a very high level even when he got pounded by ohio state and miami

I think you found the person that should be punched in the mouth.
He could be right, players bust, but it's blah blah guess work and water under the bridge, go time.
As for being at Indiana, that's a plus. First team in this new era to go undefeated. OSU, Abama couldn't do it. He was a big reason why, but far from the only reason.

If we knew for sure our o-line was solid or at least it had gelled then it would it would be just swapping out the QB. We dont even know what our o line is going to look like yet. Wait until they get it figured out then throw the inexperienced guy in there. Cousins may also play well, he deserves a chance to make a career comeback.

Cousins isn’t looking for a comeback, he’s looking for a way to add to his legacy( and bank account) while sliding into retirement.rich72 wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2026 5:02 pm If we knew for sure our o-line was solid or at least it had gelled then it would it would be just swapping out the QB.
