Free Agency thread for Raiders and league-wide
Free agency opens March 11. CBS Sports has their top 50 ranking. No Raiders on the list. I am surprised at a couple rated high - Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones. Lots of wide receivers

sam needed a great offensive minded head coach to get the light bulb on (kyle shanahan) he then went to minny under oconnell a mcvay tree guy (offensive minded) then he went to seattle under kubiak (oc) another offensive minded genius16 to 88 wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 9:39 pm Ditto to everything here.
Never in my wildest NFL dreams did I think Darnold was anything more than a back up. If that...
samething happened for baker mayfield, signed as backup for the rams mid yr under mcvay (offensive genius), then goes to tampa under cohen (offensive minded oc) and now baker is an all pro type qb
fernando will in his rookie yr be under kubiak (offensive minded genius) and he will have access to tom brady (GOAT) this is dream scenario for any qb coming into the n.f.l !!!
ps mack jones under kyle shanahan has looked great too

As i read this saw an article with comments by Flacco. I don't think he is interested in the old man mentor role.rich72 wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 10:12 am Im kind of surprised we didnt try to add Flacco, he would have been perfect as a mentor for Mendoza.

As an old older draft pick who had starting reps during camp and has played a lot of games, he still has no pocket awareness. I just do not see it in him. Sure the coaching situation could have stunted his development, but he has not shown any improvement. He is nothing more than a poor mans backup.KillerRaider30 wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 10:03 am He didn't show improvement because he had nothing to improve in.
3 years in the league and
every year a new HC.
From the Perkins system, McDaniel
To the, idk system, Pierce,
to the Getsy/Turner system under Pete.
Nobody knew what the f[raiders_icon]ck was going on and it showed.
Im a Aidan believer for backup.

The site for Super Bowl LXIII is now set to be voted on at next week’s NFL owners meetings, and it is now expected to return to Las Vegas. It’s a “matter of formality,” one source said.

Sweet. We can be the first team to win the SB in their own stadium.mstrbass2000 wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 11:28 am Adam Schefter

Flacco is a little expensive at $10mil per year, which isnt horrible, but Cousins would be $5 or $6mil per year. Im hoping we go after Cousins with two year deal only one beng guaranteed. Cousins can start first half of the season or until staff thinks Mendoza is ready. Im fine with Mendoza sitting and learning as needed.rich72 wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 10:12 am Im kind of surprised we didnt try to add Flacco, he would have been perfect as a mentor for Mendoza.
Weird Flacco chose Bengals knowing he would definitely be the backup, when with the Raiders he would have a much better chance at being the starter game one, and could continue starting if Mendo doesnt seem ready throughout the season. The deal could have had incentives/bonus for being the starter with the Raiders.

you think he prefers the old man guaranteed backup role over possibly the possible/likely starter week 1 with the Raiders ? Alot more playing time with the Raiders unless Burrow gets season ending injury early in the seasonDanKD wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 10:42 am As i read this saw an article with comments by Flacco. I dont think he does, I know he does. Burrow has missed significant time in 3 of 6 seasons. Mendoza is still likely to be our week 1 starter. Plus he doesn't have to move or do any mentoringRaiderFan1 wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 12:35 pm you think he prefers the old man guaranteed backup role over possibly the possible/likely starter week 1 with the Raiders ? If Flacco signed with the Raiders he'd have a good chance to start the season as starting QB. By signing with the Bengals he has a better chance of ending the season as starting QB. Plus he only has to worry about getting ready to play, and not about helping a young player. Not everyone relishes that role and if we add someone then it should be a guy who wants that, and possibly wants to be a coach in the future.

Thank god no one listens to us cause the majority of what we say is wrong, i mean if you took the 1% that were right about & put them together collectively we’d make the greatest GM everchucker wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 4:35 pm Joe Flacco is somehow relevant because he signed with the Bengals today, but it was also reported today that Flacco had interest from the Las Vegas Raiders, among others. But he liked the setup in Cincinnati coming off last season.
Darnold is somehow relevant as a cautionary tale that the same guy might have definitively said that Darnold and AOC third string at best...... and might have already been proven very wrong about one of those.
I mean half the board was clamouring to trade a 2nd rounder for JJ McCarthy last year, thank god we didn’t
Would i like a better backup 100% yes but until we get one then i think AOC will do

To be fair, we don't know JJ isn't good yet. Admittedly, it doesn't look good but he has the potential for a Darnold/Baker/Bryce Young turnaround. Lord knows I'd take him over O'Connell any day of the week.CWood24 wrote: Thu Mar 26, 2026 3:28 am Thank god no one listens to us cause the majority of what we say is wrong, i mean if you took the 1% that were right about & put them together collectively we’d make the greatest GM ever

jj is still seeing the game frantically, when it slows down for him he could be a good pro ...missed his rookie yr so last yr was really his rookie yr now going into yr 2 with competition already, id like to see if jj gets cut next yr or traded for cheap id take a shot "kubiak" could be just the guy to turn him around then we could trae him off for a 3rdBoKnows81 wrote: Thu Mar 26, 2026 3:57 am To be fair, we don't know JJ isn't good yet. Both the Bucs and the Rams have won in their own stadiums recently.Nor_Cal_Raider wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 12:24 pm Sweet. We can be the first team to win the SB in their own stadium.
