Viper wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 3:27 am There was no way Maxx was passing a physical 8 weeks out from surgery, doesn’t matter who the doctor is. Every team knew this going into FA. As you stated, our defense is improved, especially if we retain him.
And ya, we got screwed. You don’t agree to a trade, let a team you’re trading with go and spend a boat load of cash signing guys, and then get cold feet because you saw something else shiny, not to mention we were signing players around the idea we had an extra first round pick.
Pisses me off they can get away with being complete douche bags with no repercussions. As many have said tho, time to move on.
Soft tissue injuries like his do not heal in that amount of time. The NFL does not provide a large enough window between the end of the season and the beginning of free agency to fully get that done. Teams know this and have to take what the doctors say and project forward. It gets tougher with Lisfranc injuries because there is no way to know for certain. Microfracture procedures are another. Baltimore knew Crosby was not going to be fully healed. It was bullshit in all likelihood but it is not against the CBA what they did. And I am at a loss to know how the rule could be changed so it does not happen again. The physicals are medical opinions so there are gray areas to this.

Looks like Maxx is committed to being a Raider. Typical Maxx tweet, “believe nothing you hear and half of what you see”, bro you literally got traded wdym

That said, this is a great outcome for us. Either we keep Maxx, or the floor of the trade is back to where it was because we can negotiate based on the premise that we are happy to keep him.

It will be interesting to see how Spytek handles this and makes the best of the situation. Making lemonade out of lemons is a part of a GM's job. Maxx is obviously not a lemon but the entire scenario presents a challenge.

So I'm guessing our defensive front seven will be:

Koonce----Walker----Dean----Maxx

---------Wilson----NT----Paye----

Not bad, really. The remaining task is drafting or signing a big 0-tech nose tackle.

My gut says Jerry is clearing space for Maxx. He has 12 and 20. And his longevity window is closing.

And my second choice again is the Rams going all in with pick 13 for Maxx.

At this point, you either have to make him a Raider for life or you still trade him before the season. No 1 year rental and trade him in 2027 or nonsense like that.

The part that people seem to forget is that the Raiders said he failed his physical because he needed surgery on his shoulder, then he signed with the Rams who said he didn't. Then he played with a gimpy shoulder for a while before ending that season on IR and undergoing shoulder surgery.

There are actually medical issues with most players who've been in the league awhile. It just depends on how much weight you put on it. I actually understand the Ravens not wanting to trade 2 firsts for a guy fresh off of meniscus repair. But they shouldn't have said they would. IMO it was all about getting Hendrickson for less money than he had been asking for during the illegal tampering period.

Maxx will likely be unable to walk when his NFL career is over because he'll push himself so hard. That's certainly a risk for any team because at some point his play could fall off a cliff. Until then, I'm happy to have him as a Raider, but the offer from the Ravens was strong enough to jump at.

Agreed. The whole point of the trade this offseason was to move him while his value is high. If he's suiting up for us this year, we should restructure him to free up cap space and have him retire a Raider.

What's wild about this whole saga is that if we had decided all along not to trade Maxx and then made all of these moves, we'd have to convince him that things are different. And Maxx, it seems, was done and wanted to move on. Now, because it's the Ravens that kept him from getting moved to a "contender", it feels like he may view it as a fresh start on an ascending team in a way that never would have happened without this weird journey.

I also wonder if we'd have been as aggressive in FA with Maxx on the roster - I kinda doubt it. In the end, it might be the Ravens who helped the Raiders accelerate the journey back to relevance. Regardless, f[raiders_icon]ck the Ravens.

I’ve never liked that f[raiders_icon]cking team. Ray Lewis, Fat f[raiders_icon]ck, Ray Rice, but my disgust with them had faded. It’s back full-force. f[raiders_icon]ck that dirtbag dogshit organization. I’m gonna hate-follow and celebrate every single f[raiders_icon]ckup and failure. Can’t wait to destroy them in ‘27.

Attyla wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 3:16 am Dr Daniel Cooper, who is the Cowboys team doctor and is a world renowned knee specialist was the doctor who did his physical. While he found that the surgical procedure was progressing, he was not cleared and as a result, Baltimore passed on Crosby. When you have a specialist of his level of expertise doing the evaluation, it is pretty much a done deal. And you have to understand, these are medical opinions so somewhat subjective. What happened in Baltimore was so rare they would not have had a backup evaluator available.

All that to say, is it shady? One can make the case very easily. Did Baltimore stack the deck? Almost certainly. Did we get screwed? That would be an opinion, but I would say our defense as it stands now is significantly improved.
Riddle me this, you are a team of football minds sitting around the table debating well before free agency what moves to make for your team. It is decided that the likelihood that of your superstar DE being traded is through the roof it's just a matter of the best offer so you base all your moves off of that. He gets traded, you implement your plan and you go out and sign players based off of that and then the slimy dirt ball of an organization you dealt him too that has done this in the past now backs out of the deal. You would have went in a different direction free agency wise if you were unable to deal him. That was the whole purpose of dealing him in the first place.

The vast majority on this board, league wide NFL circles and the talking heads all know the ravens totally goofed us up. The only question that remains is did they do it on purpose or did they realize after the fact. You see, I don't look at the ravens organization and say to myself, self, this organization is stupid. In fact I believe they are a bunch of sharks. So let's assume for a second a team that has had the success they have had is not stupid. I'm in the camp that they did this on purpose. And even if it was not on purpose, they realized there own mistake and/or wanted to go in another direction and it was a moment of them successfully stuffing the shit back in the horse and goofing us up in the progress, well, that is bad as well. Either way is bad and with 100% certainty if somebody did it to them they would be enraged. And, rightfully so.

....I still believe we would have been aggressive with the new regime, and while we heard of the supposed list provided by our new DC of what he needed to make it work on that side of the ball, I would imagine that kk also wanted some kind of commitment beyond what we would do with the 1st pick. ....on the flip side, the de that we signed is one which may have not been had we known.... ....there weren't more than maybe one or 2 moves we made that weren't geared towards real team needs, and with those one or 2 perhaps being to compensate for his expected loss.....
