Free Agency thread for Raiders and league-wide

Free agency opens March 11. CBS Sports has their top 50 ranking. No Raiders on the list. I am surprised at a couple rated high - Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones. Lots of wide receivers

He is cheap to keep as a third option.

Cutting Geno saves 8ish million right? Cutting Cappa saves 3-5 million? IF Maxx gets traded that saves 30.7 million, round up to 31. I think Geno and Cappa cut is a given. That alone should have the Raiders at about 100 million in cap?

How's that Smith guy from the Raiders looking as an option?

I'm surprise he listed soon to be cut QB's on the list but not Smith. Smith was Carroll's guy and I would be pretty surprised if the Raiders don't cut him. I don't know if I would even want his mopey ass on the sideline as a backup QB as the guy was straight up trash last season.

ESPN’s Ryan McFadden believes Alec Pierce and Rashid Shaheed are players the Raiders “could target” in free agency.

Part of the offensive overhaul under Klint Kubiak will be to figure out how to fix last year’s wideout room, which ended the season with Tre Tucker and a dusty Tyler Lockett getting the majority of the snaps. Franchise-tagging Pierce could be in play for the Colts. Kubiak just spent half a season with Shaheed, so that pairing has some extra juice. (Though it should be noted Shaheed didn’t exactly thrive on offense with Kubiak.)

Well he played for the Raiders last year with a bad O-line (who fired their coach) but he was great on the Seahawks for a few years before he went to the Raiders. I think he would be a great pickup for our team.

Give me Alec Pierce 25yo 6'3" all day.
Led the league in depth of reception for 2 years straight and had 1 drop last moved more to an intermediate WR in 2025 as his vertical receptions went from 47 to 37% and caught 10 more balls, 37 to 47 and a 81 PFF blocking score

Whole dropping zero balls Rashid Shaheed 27yo 6'0" had 59 catches and ran deep routes 15% of the time.
57% of his routes were within 10 yards of the los and had a 66 PFF block score.

Alec Pierce is significantly more likely to play as an outside receiver. During the 2025 season, Pierce played 86.6% of his snaps on the perimeter compared to Rashid Shaheeds 55%.

Alec Pierce is better at catching the back-shoulder throw compared to Rashid Shaheed. Pierce’s physical profile and high-level contested-catch ability make him a prototypical target for these technical perimeter plays, whereas Shaheed is primarily utilized for his elite speed and separation.

Need for WR1
Can Bech Tre Thornton or Lockett put up number like Jaxon Smith-Njigba who is the primary number one wide receiver in Seattle?
He led the team in receiving with 119 catches for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2025.

Shaheed should definitely be a target. I don’t know what we have been doing with our return game the past few years but with 100 mil in cap I think we should fix it.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong but why pursue Shaheed when you have Tucker & Thornton as speed guys already on the roster. Not sure Shaheed is that much more of an improvement over Tucker. Especially at the cost it will take. Yes I know about the cap space but seems to me that money would be better if allocated elsewhere

I agree but also think neither can fill our outside WR1 needs.

I have been talking about Pierce for a while. This kid has everything we need to help this team. Great attitude, leader, and big play ability. However, what I am most excited about him is that he is both a willing and a VERY GOOD blocker. He would be a HUGE help to BOTH Mendoza and Jeanty. He is going to cost a ton and I am not sure if the front office will want to spend this kind of money for him this season (if we are being honest, we are still at least a couple of years away). Our first priority is to build that OL (which more than likely will not be done this season without trading Max).
