I have to imagine Smith has to look competent against the Jags or he’s likely going to be benched. If that happens it’s probably guaranteed that he’s cut next season and the team absorbs the $18.5 dead money for 2026 which isn’t terrible for cutting a starting QB.

If not for PC he would not be a starting QB on any team in the league besides this dumpster fire & the fact the Raiders gave him 66.5 mil guaranteed is in fact very Terrible lol

Nothing works when your o-line sucks but build from the outside in.
Until we solve the QB issue nothing else matters.

You can't draft the next guy and out him behind a putrid O line, it's basically guaranteeing failure. I wonder how many of the failed early picks who ended up resurrecting their careers elsewhere were put into that situation with the teams that drafted them. Carr's best year, by far, was behind a great O line, and we all know how he looked with a poor one.

It all starts and ends with the QB. Period. End of discussion. QB comes first.

Obviously the QB is the most important position, but if you put a rookie behind a terrible O line you're most likely going to get a garbage result. Daniel Jones is the latest example I think. You remember Brady, Manning, etc., going down the bench and screaming at their O lines, they did that because they knew they couldn't succeed with them playing poorly and they were maniacs for competition.

A smart team gets there QB and then builds their team before he signs his next contract.

We can improve o line with free agency and draft. We drafted 2 this past year. (I know they aren’t playing). We have JPJ. Bring in another free agent IOL and draft one fo the top guys.

We have to focus on the trenches but we do need a qb desperately. Even if we’re wrong we have to try and keep trying

If all teams were to start a draft from scratch 32 out of 32 would take a Josh Allen over a Tristian Wirfs every day of the week.

I don't disagree but the league is littered with guys who never got to their second contract with the team that drafted them. If we do get a top 2 or 3 pick, and do select the next guy, we had better be damned acftive on the O line front as well. Reggie built a 12-3 team by doing that with a young guy and the lesson has been taught many times across the decades.

This is EXACTLY the optimal route to go and how smart franchises do it.

Guess what we do? /sarcasm

We should assume that whoever we pick at QB won’t last all that long - odds say that he won’t and we should adjust our drafting with that in mind.

This franchise is so behind the times when it comes to drafting a QB. As in since its inception in 1960.

Drafting a QB starts the clock on his contract. Eveything the team does (a good team) should be factoring it in.

And finally an elite QB (which every team but us it seems) should be striving for one. An elite QB can alleviate some issues until a line is built. The reverse is not true: a great offensive line is severely limited if the QB is sub par.

Again, don't disagree on getting the QB. Just saying, we've seen it play out over and over, and putting a young QB behind a terrible O line is a recipe for failure.
