The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft

Unread post by erickench »

Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year. :cuss:

This is probably the case. Grant is listed as #2 to Kolton the depth chart. Gottlieb spent time on the PS last year, so they're giving another shot to a familiar face for a PS slot.

Leroy Watson IV was signed to the PS.

Let’s hope Forsythe has learnt from past experiences & comes out swinging

Although i’m against throwing developmental projects to the wolves if they think Grant & Rogers are the future then let them learn together on that left side

Glaze & JPJ seem to be getting an understanding with each on the right

If we’re going to have growing pains with OL let’s at least be looking to the future with who we have out there

Grant
Rogers
Meredith
JPJ
Glaze

It would give Jeanty a few road graders in front of him that might open holes & give us a look at what we have

I don’t think anyone would complain about bad line play if we were blooding young guys who are figuring themselves out at the next level

Lets see how bad Parham looks without having our stud next to him. Could he look any worse?

Good call, hope Pete can think the same, but I doubt it. He seems to WAY over-favor veterans.

Given Smith’s penchant for turnovers it may be wise to switch to a run heavy attack and make things a little easier on the offensive line and getting Jeanty going should open up play action which is something Kelly hasn’t been doing enough of.

I wish it were so easy, the oline still has plenty to prove. The Raiders did it once and most likely until you prove yourself many times, it was the matchup with the Bears.

I wonder if they thought they were humbling him with the competing stuff. If so that’s really stupid.

I just checked the latest PFF grades. Our offensive line is improving. Everybody except Forsyth has a grade of 60 or better. But what we do about G. Smith?

On yesterday's podcast, Hondo Carpenter pointed out that the Raiders apparently have "competition" at every position...except quarterback.

This was to be expected from Forsyth. He was always a career backup. We won't get K. Miller back for awhile. :crying:
