Absolutely. When you draft a guy with his skills you get the ball into his hands and if the run blocking is suspect then do it through the air. Look at Bijan on Sunday, rough day running the bell but a bunch of catches for 100 and a score.Rabidraider wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 5:44 am I want more Jeanty in the short passing game. I expect some of that Monday night.

I’m impressed by his pass protection skills. He is a true every down back. I was worried that part of the game would be the reason he gets pulled out, but nope, he was up to the task and delivered.

For some reason I feel the NFL has forgotten things that worked and worked well and one is RB getting a lot more passes, it's a huge win getting a RB in space. What was wrong with what Marcus did both on the ground and in the air? What about Marshall Faulk? A key part of the Greatest Show. What about Thurman Thomas? I still feel a smart OC should study that Bill's O from the 90's, it was lethal and it's like forgotten in time and it was wonderful to do a quick flip to Thurman to beat the rush.Jeevo wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 6:42 am Absolutely. Might that be Emmitt Smith in fact?GoodTimeCharlie wrote: Tue Sep 09, 2025 7:21 pm Both of those fellas have proven out to be horrible judges of talent.
There’s a guy Jeanty reminds me of. Wasn’t very explosive, but was fundamentally sound, great balance, great feel for the position, nose for the end zone etc. etc., yada yada yada.
He had an inch and 10lbs on Jeanty. Ran a 4.59 compared to Jeanty’s 4.42. He did alright for his career. Played behind a damn good OLine for most of it as well. Got himself a few rings. For the time-being that dude holds the record for most rushing yards and most rushing TDs in the NFL.

I don’t think Chris Simms is wrong so far Jeanty hasn’t looked like a top 6 pick in a draft for a running back. He needs to be elite for that pick to be worth it. oline struggles and Pats played the run hard. But you don’t take a RB that high and have excuses for him, he’s got to do better, and if we don’t have the O-line to make the most of him then you should question the process of taking a running back so early.

I wonder how much of the wet field effect Jeanty. He slipped on that one 3rd down. He denied its effect but didn't want to make excuses either. Talk about getting your feet wet for the first time. Monday is his first home game on a great field. One game does not make a career.

I agree but over many many more games. Simm's seen like 10 Jeanty runs in the preseason and many were solid. Simm's seen one real game which started good and then no holes or late game clock killing runs. I have my concerns with him and really anyone until they do it, but keep it in your pants until you have a reasonable sample Chris.WolfRaider wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 8:01 am I don’t think Chris Simms is wrong so far Jeanty hasn’t looked like a top 6 pick in a draft for a running back. Not really sure how he could have done better. He had great pass pro reps. Dude is leading the league in being tackled for a loss with 6. I think we can all agree he wasn't doing a ton of dancing behind the line causing that, he was pretty much being hit immediately after the majority of his handoffs. He's one of 11 RBs with multiple broken tackles. I also think he's passing the eyeball test, but for one reason or another the game script didn't go his way. This happens to elite RBs all the time.WolfRaider wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 8:01 am I don’t think Chris Simms is wrong so far Jeanty hasn’t looked like a top 6 pick in a draft for a running back. Long winded way of saying the sample size is simply too small. Jeanty looked fine, the OL did not. Let's hope the coaches can help these guys improve. As for your latter point about the wisdom in taking a RB so early, I liked Membou and would have been happy with either him or Jeanty. That being said I'm not convinced we're rushing for many more yards last week if we took Membou instead. We failed to rush the ball as a team. I do feel like we were not aggressive enough in improving one of the worst OL's in the league last year but patience is required. Despite what Coach Pete tells me I'm aware that this year is more about damage control and laying a foundation than competing for a Superbowl.

I think the goal with a 1st round pick should be to draft a player who will be a consistent starter for the next 5 or 6 seasons. Geanty should be able to make that happen.

Hard to get him involved in the passing game when he has to stay in to keep Geno upright. Better oline pass protection gives us more versatility in getting tight ends and RBs into routes.

Block and then break into a pattern for the dump off. Raiders are learning who they are and teams are analyzing what we do, new wrinkles every week.rhumbob wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 12:10 pm Hard to get him involved in the passing game when he has to stay in to keep Geno upright. Pats blitzed at a 40% rate. Hard to release the back when they send extra men
