I agree. The prideful piece annoys me most because of his publicly displayed religion. Which is the real DC? The one who publicly says he is not playing for the money, or the guy looking to make a big time contract and get paid like a superstar?
Something about “pride before destruction, the haughty before the fall”?

Not my book, but Derek’s and others. Interesting to see if he’s living up to that. I’ll let each make their own judgement but add a few of my own comments below.

And note before people get their man panties in a twist: I’m not knocking. Derek or anyones religion. Believe what you want. I am pointing out that if one publicly proclaims one’s faith, and so openly you invite yourself to responses.

And again since it’s likely to get missed I’m making making no dispersions on his faith.

To sum up, as is noted Derek isn’t as consistent as he might like to project in terms of humbleness. Humble when your next contract is (likely) to be in excess of 200 million?

And let’s be honest a lot of these guys do work on their craft, sure. But much of it is the fact they have also won the gene pool lottery. No matter how hard Peter Dinklage wants it, no matter how hard he works he’s never becoming an NFL QB.
Amazing actor? Yes.

Side note: humble is not something I would associate with his David Carr for example.
But how much is Carr going to pout if he doesn't get that extension now? I worry that he'll lack motivation and the team will suffer. The fact that an extension hasn't been signed tells me that talks are ongoing. That is, he wants more money and he wants it now, but management is at the very least mulling over its options.

I have a gut feeling that Carr overestimates his own value. Despite his claims he's a very prideful person and cares about perceived status. However, a simple look around the league at other QBs clearly indicates he's not worth what is rumored to be on the table. He's an upper mid-tier player and should be paid accordingly.
Not a concern. He can wash out all he likes and prove himself expendable which helps the team realize we must be moving on and he can carry a clipboard for the likes of Mayfield or Jimmy G or Darnold all he likes.

We have already proven we cannot coddle this fella to victory so no need to check the same box again for what a 4th time?

Rinse and repeat.

I'd be perfectly fine with him leaving, as soon as he likes. Like a lot have already pointed out, this is a mid tier guy, wanting top tier money. Doesn't work.

I don't see any sense in spending a minute worrying about speculative value, speculative, demands, a speculative contract, and its speculative cap hit. And, that's not a pro-Carr or anti-Carr statement - we just have no idea what is actually being discussed in the building.

If we hamstring ourselves with a huge contract, I will be pissed, but I will trust our new management until they give me reason not to.

If no extension this year, Carr has to play lights out for his next contract whether it be with the Raiders or elsewhere. If he plays great this next season, he will get a phenomenal contract next season...somewhere. If he blows balls, he won't. I think that is why he is shooting for the moon now for an extension. He thinks hes better than he is IMO

Raider management can likely get great trade value for Carr right now......

The teams that were looking for QB got their QB, it is slim pickings now. Jimmy G is also available publicly and no team even offered a trade. I think Derek Carr will sign a extension in a few months.

Colts considered 2 firsts for Carr and others (Murrray, Garopolo) before settling on Matt Ryan.

Would it surprise no one if they both went of this year?
