i'd extend him if he is willing to sign around 30m per season. if he wants closer to 40, i'd rather wait.
25-30mil on a 2 year prove it extension would be worth it. Anything more than 30 is highway robbery. Unfortunately his agent will go for top dollar.

My gut tells me (in other words, I am talking out of my arse right now), that Carr will want around 37 - 40 million a year.

If Carr is willing to sign a deal for $30 million a year or less then it changes the conversation - but the likelihood of that is pretty remote IMO. Both his agent, and his brothers, and media will reference much richer deals than that and will strongly object to Carr "underselling" the traditional QB market.
If Carr resists that outside influence then good for him, and I'd be fine with an extension.

I agree....30M is absolute tops for Carr. That puts him about equal to Matt Ryan and Tannehill. That is about as good as he can be. and causes some pain for both sides. For the Raiders, it would be a win if they can get him for under 30M avg per year.
There are some higher guys that Carr's agent will no doubt refer to.....Wentz at 32M, Goff at 33.5M, Cousins at 33M. Team could counter with hey Brady is at 25M, Stafford at 27M, and Rodgers is only at 33.5M. Carr may be arguably equal or slightly better than Wentz, Goff, and Cousins...but nowhere near Brady and Rodgers when it comes to results.

pay him just 10M a year
extra 20M or more go to the defense
with the most of the difference coming from a historic season by one of the best receivers ever and this past season on a stacked rams team and another historic season by cooper kupp. carr had neither on the raiders ever. rest of their careers are pretty much a wash.
Take Stafford’s 2 best seasons out he’s still ahead of Carr.

Carr can only dream of doing elite things like this.

I like Carr at his current pay of $19.88 million.
If Carr really wants to win, he will play for $20 million a year.
If Carr just cares about money and not winning, he's going to ask for $35-$40 million a year.
I would build this team on the Defensive side into hopefully a top 5 D, I would then install a real power running, control the clock type of offense. Carr can make 3-4 “winning plays” per game, with a top end D and ground attack that would be enough.
The waste of assets by this franchise over the past 2 decades is the real reason we haven’t been successful, hopefully that changes with this regime.
A power running game out of the shotgun, with no play fake, and no pump fake how?

No matter the price he is still a one read, immobile quarterback with incredibly poor pocket awareness, and lousy footwork that must operate out of the shotgun with no play or pump fake that doesn't "do" tight windows.
I don't have use for him other than as an elite back up to get a team on a run through a few games until the book is out on him and hopefully the starter is back.
We are not such a team so I have no use for him at all.
I do not believe in a Dilfer formula. That is called lightning in a bottle and none of the teams that won that way could ever replicate it.
Meeting stupid somewhere in the middle is very likely to still be stupid.
