#4 is such a class act really proud to have him as our QB
Derek Carr is the most unappreciated player in Raiders franchise history.
If a person is only good because they're afraid their chosen deity will punish them, it says frightening things about that person.
I think Carr would be a good man regardless of his religious beliefs. If he were to lose his faith, it's absurd to think he'd suddenly become some horrible person. He'd still be him, just with a different religious belief system or no religious belief system.
This is a shallow take at best, and I bet you know that. People don't conduct themselves or make decisions solely out of fear of punishment, whether explicitly "religious" or not. It's inaccurate to characterize religious folk in that manner.
Also seem to be underestimating the impact of religious books and cultures on the development of civilization. Religious texts aren't scientific accountings, they're distilled wisdom meant to help with deep questions about how to conduct oneself... and have played an important part in shaping our collective values over time.
(Even if you strip away the metaphysical aspects, religious texts can still be viewed as a progression of the emergent ethic found in animal species predating humans. They're more complex because humans are more complex.)
It's important not to dispense with them lightly, or you risk throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I suggest reading Nietzsche and Jung for anyone who seeks more knowledge on this topic.
Al would have replaced him after his first year, thats a fact.
Maybe or maybe not but Al certainly would not hired Jon Gruden the second time around. Both Al and Jon did not see eye to eye and had shouting matches in front of players. If Al was alive, Jon Gruden would have been coaching in Tampa Bay.

Carr is the QB this franchise (and even more so, this fanbase) needs, not the one we deserve.

Of course— edwards turned out to be a jag,, but man there’s a big part of me that thinks we should have realized what an unmotivated slug jacarcass was, there were signs and also a lot of red flags from scouts— but al was al.

You also make a lot of unfounded assumptions regarding my knowledge of religion both western and otherwise. Your post that I initially replied to essentially stated that Carr could not be a good person without his faith and that position is utter nonsense. The rest of your post immediately above is a bunch of pretentious window dressing having nothing to do with your earlier statement.

I'm far from what I would call a Carr homer, but the Raiders are very fortunate to have Carr there to shoulder all this BS and be a classy leader for the franchise

Carr is probably the best QB press conference personality in the game right now! Classy and sincere. We are very fortunate to have him.

Carr's presser was moving. I had a hard time getting through it, especially when you hear his voice cracking as he struggles to contain his emotions. He's a good guy. For all the horrible things that have surrounded our organization this year I'm proud to have him as our QB.

Carr’s moral character has never been in question, not that I’m aware of. And not from me, others perhaps.
But right now the forum is in an up cycle on Carr and he’s splaying well. But the level that people are getting carried away with?
